Engineers What is your current opinion of Engineers `?

Personally, I'm enjoying the engineers. I admit that at first, I found it frustrating. But now that I've figured out how get the "stuff", I'm having fun.

I do understand others frustration with the game mechanic. It's not for everyone.

I also think folks need to get over the dice roll thing. If you don't like what you get, you can come back and roll again. (flame away, I can take it!:))

I like the missions overhaul and the AI tuning, however I think these changes are simply bringing these aspects closer to what they should have been from the start rather than good additions.

The engineer addition itself is something I think was implemented with very little to no thought whatsoever. I would have been much happier if they had simply added more weapons and modules to the game.

Why? He's got the point.
Engineers aren't something you grind towards. You simply play the game with all the new features and once in a while you visit the Engineer to see what's in store.
I like it.

Engineers are based on grind mechanics. Go unlock Hera Tani and tell me that's not a grind. Plus calling people autistic for expressing how they feel about the grindy nature is really disrespectful.

Genius and wonderful, spoiled by pure crap, poorly thought out inclusions,      poor implementations, a total lack of quality control (typos, wrong word choices and placeholder text making it into a release? Seriously?), a clear lack of insight or forethought into how many changes would interact with existing parts of the game or what their repercussions would be, and a quagmire of damned-if-you-do, damned-in-a-slightly-different-way-if-you-don't choices the player now has to deal with.

I don't blame the devs, I blame project management on this one. Someone was overly ambitious and the result is a complete mixed bag.

PS - Not playing any more until such time as I won't find my novice ranked in combat self interdicted by an Elite ranked FDL who wants to kill me for the ONE unit of cargo in my hold which has a value of less than 100 creds, but who he thinks is "mother lode" and a "rich haul" because it's one of the new engineer commodities and those seem to be catnip to NPCs.

i did 1 FSD rank 5 upgrade with the only 2 polonium i'd ever gotten, and i literally got the worst result possible, max penalty on all 3 downsides, minimum upgrade (15% out of up to 44%); i've spent all weekend trying to get more (mostly on ETA DRACONIS A4) without luck, and overall i still enjoy it because at least it has me interested in playing again; very excited for 2.2 in 7 weeks.

Honestly HATE the RNG that goes into it. This could have been amazing right now it is just annoying, lame, boring, frustrating etc.

I just wish the development time was spent on implementing the features they are holding off for 2.2 and 2.3. Planetary landings, Guardians and The Commanders were ALL the reasons I paid for Horizons. I never wanted Engineers and sadly, it looks like it isn't even working out for those who DID want it.

Just give me ship-launched fighers, character creation for my commander and the ability to have my friends in a single ship with me.

I think its too early to tell but the changes will hopefully be refined further to not alienate mac and 1.6 gamers from the game.

I mostly like everything... but the RNG gods hate me. Searching for a day and a half, off and on - got me 6 polonium. 3 attempts at Lvl 5 FSD Range increase all rolled minimal result, and in the last case - worse than last. Disheartening, but I'm not about to give up yet. I just don't care for the RNG much at present. :|

ok, as many others said, the overall improvements are great

- not knowing where to search for materials is disappointing ( .. are dropped at USS from size 3 ships, ... are given by missions of refinery nations in high tech systems ... something like this, more specific descriptions )
- i am missing a lot of UI features, e.g. listing requirements for pinned recipes in the synthesis section would be great, pinning of more than one recipe per rngineer would be just naturally, because a 1000 years in the future computer should be able to store just as many recipes one want after one gets hold of it
- and i am missing using the bookmarks directly, i mean, when plotting routes is such a hard thing without the galaxy map, make all bookmarks in the quicknavigation available that are either within current system or reachable by one jump, just like one jump reachable stars ( uuh, having a in system bookmark directly selectable from within another system would be soo nice, having sell point and mining planet bookmarked jumping beetween the systems would be a pleasure for massive mining sessions)
- UI - sorting by amount instead of by alphabetic would be quite helpful addition as well

some things that might come in future and are quite bugging....
- module storage?
- material caps ?
- commodity storage?

so, as might come through i rather miss the completeness of thought to not knowing where to find stuff, and not having the overview of what may be able to do with materials

Engineers are a good idea. But I hate the RNG element. Why not let us move the sliders? Max positive means you get max negative.
The wheel seriously sucks.

Everything apart from the Engineers themselves is awesome.
Actual Engineers? The phrase 'Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory' springs to mind sadly. :(

Overall the mission and graphic improvements are just fine. Bookmarks and mission avatars are something I already saw in EVE so i'm not impressed. We dont interact with them anymore than before. Dont really care about AI changes. You cant outright win a space battle (high conflict zone) so i dont partake in those anymore, running pirate police isn't interesting and i prefer exploration anyway. AI changes dont affect me at all.

The most interesting bit about the Engineers patch, the Engineers themselves turned out to be a waste of time. Obsidian Ants' video where he grinded for 2 -3 hours at got a massive 1 light year added to his FSD sums it up. And the devs are being to stubborn to admit their idea was a bad one. Of course they want to protect the hours of dev time they put into crafting the RNG, they did work hard on it. I cans sympathize to a point. But what they may have wasted their time is becoming my waste of time. The difference is they collected a salary for it. I am losing my free time on something i paid for.

5/10 over all, 1/10 engineers themselves.

Played an ungodly amount of hours since 2.1 released, so there is that. A few things need to be worked out but otherwise the game is loads of fun now.
