The Dirty Dozen. I saw it when I was a kid and loved it. I simply love it and it's one of my "must-watch-at-least-once-a-year" movie. Actually, when I think of it, it is the only one on that list. <3 Kojak

I have to go with The Shawshank Redemption. Andy & Red are two of the best characters I've ever seen in any movie. EVER!
It's also the best ever Stephen King adaptation there has been so far, closely followed by The Mist and The Green Mile.

probably my favorite is V for Vendetta. It is smartly written with a large vocabulary and great monologues, complex political / religious themes to consider, a grey-area hero / anti-hero that you have to think about are his motives good or bad, and some nice action scenes. Hugo Weaving is always great and I think this is one of Natalie Portman's best rolls (not counting artsy fartsy rolls like Black Swan). She certainly threw herself at it. I'm not in Anonymous or any anarchist movements or anything, but I can always sit down and watch this movie.

Fantastic use of the letter V (and yes, I've seen it enough I know the whole thing):

It's right up there as one of my favourites, even my kids don't complain If I say shall we watch.....

Sadly I can't say the same for Madagascar 3 which I think is very funny, but they won't let me watch it anymore...

+1 Rep for Sucker Punch. On so many levels a bad film, but on so many levels just pure kick-derrier action! And actually, plot is quite good when you get your head around it.

+1 for Shawshank Redemption. Great acting, great story, its one i always recommend to everyone.

However, top spot has to go to Dune. While it deviates from the book terribly, the story is good (if a little complicated if you haven't read the books), the acting brilliant (well *cough* Sting *cough*), the costumes and sets, the music (Toto and Brian Eno), produced by the de Laurentises, and some of the lines just send shivers down my spine.

"And how can this be? For he is the Kwizatz Haderach!"

And yeah, Directors cut because it makes the insanely long film even longer, adding in more missing scenes making things more understandable. However, i prefer the Princess Irulan voiceover of the original to the one in the director's cut.

And the list of actor names... its like an all star cast... erm.. well, *cough* Sting *cough*.

Max von Sydow - The Seventh Seal (really old film, but watch it if you haven't!), Conan, Ghostbusters, Flash Gordon :D, and lots more.
Jurgen Prochnow (Das Boot - another awesome film/series)
David Lynch (Cameo as a spice worker)
Freddie Jones (many films and TV serieses)
Patrick Stewart (do i even need to say what he was in?)
Dean Stockwell (many films)
Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks)
Brad Dourif (LoTR - Grima Wormtongue and lots of others. Also, his death scene in Dune has to be one of the most comic ever)
Sean Young (Blade Runner).

and...

*cough* Sting *cough*

What more needs to be said?

Ok, yeah, just forget about Sting ok?

I had to pick a favourite it would be Blade Runner, the cut with the voiceover.

The music, the atmosphere, the scenery, Rutger Hauer's closing speech, just everything really.
