Fraps in the main, but I've been impressed by Bandicam too, as I had to resort to using it recently when Fraps wouldn't work in something. Turns out Bandicam is very good with multiple hardware compression profiles, like being able to use the dormant intel HD gpu that lurks on a 4th generation i5/i7 when you use a "proper" graphics card.

Used Fraps since the Quake days, but not sure if it's causing crashes or not (as other say it does).

I can't seem to record better than 480p (when uploaded to YouTube) but don't know if that's to do with Fraps or something else lol. Want to do 1080p videos

TIP: Record full screen in FRAPS, max capture rate at 60 FPS at 1920x1080 resoultion.
When done, load avi files into Windows Movie Maker (edit as necessary), then export as mp4 at 30 FPS 1920x1080 (you will have to create an export profile to do this in WMM)- then upload to youtube.
