Wasn't the point that some people don't want to do combat...?
One of the otheR Space sImulators looks like fun, people just playing around, stealing ships, shooting... just goofing around, More of the type of sandbox i enjoy, without risking to really lose anything. Gonna stick around and see what happens ofc![]()
Combat has always been a requirement of Elite... in 1984, it wasn't even that easy to run, as it is now.
So... they should play a different game.
Mmm. And when this goes live, and people suddenly start losing things? I'm sure it'll be "fun" then too. There is no such thing as a free lunch.
As a side note, beta was fun too given there were no consequences to the live universe either; I don't think you can really judge something until it goes live and the credits/ ships matter.

Sure. They can chose to never fire a single shot, and high-wake from every encounter and virtually never see a rebuy screen.
However, a game that has ships with guns, sold as having ships with guns, that includes verbage about using guns, is weirdly going to have combat. The argument isn't really even combat; it's that AI are now affecting the experience (as they should) and this has shocked the player base.
When the AI is virtually irrelevant, there's a problem. Frontier has endlessly telegraphed this was coming. SJA has done well to awake AI, others have helped hone; whilst some rough edges still exist, future updates I am sure will round this out.
I think that's a valid point. Part of the problem is that people decided to play a meta game (removing shields, fitting D grade modules, just for 1LY more jump range or 32 tons of cargo). Since FDEV fixed the bugs this is no longer viable. Don't forget your lasers when you want to go to space, they are part of almost every space adventure.
Except on those days when it's more like Twister. With olive oil and vodka.
