What kind of game is mining...

Mining is sorta hard to explain...but thats ok cos exploration is even harder to explain to some...sods law...

Mining is when ye just disconnect and do something very relaxing, chilled out and laid back...horizontally laid back actually. Tis a shame in a way...mining was better in eve a decade ago whereas here, its sorta pointless unless yer unlocking something.

Then again exploration might sound even more pointless when ye try and put it into words...its not what ye would find in yer typical playstyle, bit like marmite...ye either love it but cant explain why or hate it and list lots of reasons.

Hope that helps...honestly dont think it will, it would confuse me into thinking how could I write such rubbish...but there it is...Im confused...what was the question again?

Greetings,

So mining is boring, dull, frustrating, total lack of fun etc...Sounds like players looking for action as in one example say combat pilots wanting to open up an Engineer per mining 500 tons of ore, find some Painite and be done with it. So of course mining needs fixing per what they like to see in game play. It's all perspective. It is also about the Devs getting players to break out of their play style in the game and try something different.

How about relaxing, quiet and a peaceful ZEN moment?

I use EDDB to find pristine metallic, pick a bright ring and not a REZ site so one is usually left alone in a medium or better security system. If Belugas are flying around with Captains talking about a delay in arrival one is pretty safe! Fire off a prospector limpet to see what's in a rock. Like it? Launch 4 collector limpets then fire away with two mining lasers until the rock is depleted. Watch those cute little collector limpets like fireflies in the back yard on a summer evening (In the USA...Are there fireflies in the UK?) fly back and forth collecting the goodies. Peaceful and serene. Delete the cheap stuff in the recycle bin to maintain space. Indite and Gallite are my favorites to drop. Fire off a prospector limpet at another rock before the collector limpets finish to go with the flow. Lots of good YouTube videos (some are awful) dealing with mining.

I setup a mildly engineered 192 cargo Mining Clipper (cost 75 million) then fill it with 110 limpets for excellent results filling up my cargo space with commodities. It is also fast, maneuverable and has serious frag cannons (I like frags) just in case. Finding the good stuff usually takes some travel so I'll drop in a class 6 fuel scoop, land at a base in the system, store it then drop in a 64 cargo rack (purchase or transfer). No need for scanners as EDDB can find a system where they are not needed. Painite isn't an issue. It is sort of like hard to find Arsenic on a planet in an SRV but doesn't have the travel time to the next rock! A plus for mining. It is mining in a Clipper with style and I'm not all that dedicated to mining! :)

So sit back, relax, listen to some easy listening tunes (they were invented long before heavy metal), kiss your spouse, pet your critter, have a brew, smoke 'em if 'ya got 'em (I didn't say what) and consider the answer to life, the universe and everything. Thanks to the Devs for providing a ZEN moment in ED!

Regards

Well, its a boring and frustrating and total lack of fun game.

Prestine belt - check
Metallic / Metal rich - check
Hazard RES - check
Within 20KM - check

200 prospect limpets used
3 asteroids found with Painite

640 Limpets, nothing but time to spend, good tunes to listen to, and a lap full of happy cat.

Stick to metallic as others have said. Other than that it's just a matter of rng. I've shot off around 300 prospector limpets and only gotten around 10 painite before, and other times I've gotten 60-80. The only other option is to map out a res site or use someone else's map, which is a PITA and get's rid of most of the little gameplay mining has to offer. (You can learn more about it here if you are interested)

If you are looking to make the most money mining, there are a few things I would suggest. First, focus on osmium, palladium, platinum and painite over the other ores. Don't bother mining any asteroid that doesn't have one of those. Second find a system that buys the three p's at above market prices and offers mining rush missions for osmium (industrial systems in boom are the best place to look. Systems in Aisling Duval space give like 10% more for the three p's as well) and only sell to that system. Third, place low value ores on your ignore list. Where you draw the line is up to you, I personally will ignore anything below silver in value but you can go all the way up to below palladium depending on how much space you have.

All that being said, mining is still very much a take it or leave it mode of gameplay, and is very short on content.
