what other man made structures in space are there/should there be??

Space infestations like the spider thingy's on Lost in Space. Attach to your ship and you have to either get docked or get to a asteroid field to scrape them off the ship or they will burn through your canopy.

Could be a chance factor when scooping, planet surveying, salvaging or mining.

Could be a moving threat but then again, I am hoping that the devs put in some major threat that makes the players want to work together?

Great topic for a post, Lias. Having multiple structures out in space would really bring some life into the game. I could see having landing platforms or warehouse structures orbiting around the larger stations and small haulers ferrying goods back and forth. Space elevators for bringing goods down to the planet. Satelites, refueling stations, ore processing facilities, and any other general purpose structure you can imagine would be a huge boost to the atmosphere of the game. How about finding that some planet is still using one of the old generation ships as an orbiting platform?

It seems to me that you've really hit on a topic that could add significantly to the feel of the game. The areas around inhabited planets should be a bee hive of activity, especially around the large stations.

Planets with mining outposts orbiting them, should have some visibility of a base on the planet.

I have not visited Sol but from what I can see there is no signs of cities etc on the planet, if you fly round the dark side can you see any light pollution...or has man moved off world completely or underground?

Maybe a half built Coriolis station, or even one that has been blown up and just a hulk you can fly through, with maybe a few landing pads like an outpost left.

...hmmmm, just re-read my last post. Not sure if there would be enough large scale monuments and historic battleground that wouldn't have been plundered unless a whole load of policing is put in place.

Yeah...lets get the combination stations, spacedocks, city lights etc...that have been mentioned previously...

O yeah...and something to explain the lack of AI.....

I would like to see some wreckage of capital ships floating around in distant systems. Maybe even a few alien capital ships. This one could be cradle type or seed ships. Long lost and gone cold.

Wasnt there something in the original elite where you could transport a cargo of alien pets, and they would start to mutiply and obscure your cockpit screen??

I'd like to see a kind of galactic "drive threw" fast food. All the time I spend in game and my pilot didn't die of starvation or dehydration yet, that's interesting, if he even is a human?? :D

But seriously:
- lights on dark sid of planets
- small drones or small service ships doing maintenance of stations
- small shuttles traveling from planet to station - come on if system population is for example 13+bllion and there is just nothing moving? where is all the life out there?
- comms satelites around the planets maybe
- massive mining, trading or war ships we would be able to dock in, travelling from system to system slowly
- massive colonization vessels, when an event "we are colonizing a new world" would happen
- shipyards building ships and stations
- and for sure 30 playable ships is just not enough :/

Would be good to have hollowed asteroids as playable ships. Perhaps useful for stealth missions, though could be tricky to dock.

Cheers, Phos.

A communications station with 1 docking pad and only missions. Not even refuel.

I don't know about only one pad, but I found a station that only has a bulletin board, no refuel, no shipyard, no commodities, no, no, nothing.

* Weapons platforms. - basically turrets either free floating or on asteroids.
Used to guard stuff.

But....could also be old ones still active long after what they were protecting as been destroyed.

* Superstructures - Dysons sphere might be overkill, but space elevators, or even orbital rings for sufficiently rich civilisations. Theres also other interesting structures like skyhooks;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyhook_(structure)

* Accelerator satellites- arrays of satellites that were used before frameshift was invented to give spacecraft a maganetic boast. (remember in real spaceships the more fuel you carry the harder it is to accelerate. Weight is a real issue. Gaining impulse from a non-on board fuel has a strong advantage)

* Large science vessels - large, slow, ships that goto an array to investigate something if a player found something interesting. Could be tied to many missions.

A Dyson sphere would be awesome... Although with the FSD mechanics it would have to be on a 'B' star.

If they added things lke shuttles from space stations to the planet and simialr things like that. then it may be an idea to make them un-targetable, as otherwise your scanner would become cluttered with the things.

I'd quite like to see a space restaurant, but you can only use it a couple of hours before the servers finally go offline.
