What PC spec is needed to run Odyssey at 1440p/4k at a steady 60fps?

IDK but something really powerful.
I play at ultra on 5k x 1440 p and get 70 FPS in ship, enter a planet, just the atmosphere, and BAM i get a nice sweet 12 FPS, some times 20.

i quit trying today as the pc just gives up after a minute
This is where im at, i think im done with ED for a while. at least a year or so until they fix it, or unless FDEV comes out and releases something worth playing.

Spending hours and dealing with bugs for a bolt on FPS that is poorly optimized, rewards nothing of value, and effects nothing but being able to do said bolt on FPS better, is not worth the effort behind it.

Hopfully they fix it sooner rather then later, im out 40 bucks but it could be worse, i could have been one of those people that paid to play the "Alpha"

i canht understand the problem with big G-Cards and Fps !!!... i have a Nvidia gtx 980 with 14 mb Ram ,...and the Prozessor is a i7 with 4400 mhz * dont know ... and the game runs (WITHOut VR ) smoth 90 fps .. on ULTRA ... so for me the game runs good
( and i am thinking to downgrade the G-Settings and switching to Vr Back again ,) becouse more fun .. So a PC with good Hardware schould have no Problem with the game ,..a idea is to check whats othjerwhise running Parrallel to EDlite Dangerous !!! ???

edit ..and one more question ,,why is a gam,e Better if more FPS it runs on PC ??? ..Elite starts with 2 fps on C64 in early days ..and Landing in the Station was a REAL Problem

edit: one more ! Elite Dangerous Odyssey is Possible to play with FUn on a Medium Hardware Outfitted system ..

It has nothing to do with other programs running alongside Odyssey, or is everyone having performance issues coincidentally rendering Shrek 3 whilst encoding an 8k video for youtube and completely forgot about it?

Why do we need more than 2fps? Because it's no longer 1984, people hadn't been exposed to buttery smooth gameplay in those days - I was there but it still sucked. Playing Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix on the old Amiga 500 was fun but it ran like treacle in winter had it been possible to get 30fps it would have been even more fun. Do we need 200fps? No, but we do expect more than 22fps when on the ground.

I’m running 1440p on ultra. I have 8700k with a 1080ti , frame rates in space are well over 120fps and on stations when I disembark it drops to 40-45 fps. Landing on Planets are between 45-80fps and on foot around 45fps.
The experience is all very smooth and totally playable.
However, the lighting needs to be fixed as some planets are way too bright when passing in space , the ships hud is too dark and the planetary settlements (if they not powered and its dark) are unseeable from distance even with torch on.

of course i did not write ABOUT 2 FPS !!! .. but why whe need 15ß fps to be a game is pointed as Good !! ??? .Many peoples here are not that you and have other problems like as much Frames per second as we can get ... So .. this game is great for people thet have older Hardware and cant afford new Hardware and can anyway a chance to have fun in a game like threese .and OF COUSRSE many people are driving programms beside Elite dagerous and playing ED NOT on there Gaming Computer ..Therr Running Elite on there home Comuputer ,that are Runninmg programms for Childs and much other differet Software ... So if you have great hard ware ,,and Bad FPS you have to check the computer ,,noit the game

What kind of GPU/CPU does it take to run Odyssey at 60fps on foot and in space at a steady 60fps+ on 1440p/4K at high/ultra?
Whish I could advise you, but GPU Prices are OTT.

Mine is way overkill, Lucky I got my RTX3080 at RRP, and RTX3060Ti`s are well overpriced for what they are.

My RTX 3080 is pegged @ 97 ish, think my cpu is only using 18-20 ish.
4k ultra, custom DeviceDefaults.xml for my hardware if that makes any difference.

As I say, well overkill, Just wish we could have DX12 DLSS2.0 for VR when the time comes.🥴

so let me get this straight - all the people having FPS issues, and no I'm not talking about only getting 250fps instead of 300, I'm talking less than 60 in the same game that a week ago they were getting 150, suddenly either

A: Have installed resource hogging programs and are running them alongside elite which is causing the performance to tank - and have not even thought about stopping those programs.

B: Always had these super CAD programs, video editing software, bitcoin mining etc running in the background and Odyssey simply conflicts with them causing performance to tank when Horizons had no issues with these programs.

Or

C: The Elite Dangerous/Horizons build was well optimized and ran excellently on a range of systems and the Odyssey build was programmed by either Idiots, chimpanzees, lazy programmers or by a team flogged to death to shovel this hot garbage out of the door and onto peoples PC's to hit deadlines at least 6 months before it was going to be acceptable - perhaps all 4.

Given that they will not be releasing this on console until Autumn ( I expect that to slide ) tells us that frontier know full well that Odyssey is, from a performance point of view, not ready, not acceptable, Sony and Microsoft just wont tolerate it especially after the Cyberpunk scandal. Us PC users on the other hand are ripe for the picking.

I'd agree. Also, let's not forget the Xbox one and PS4 are systems from 2013 and they weren't especially high end when they came out.

If much newer and more powerful PC systems can't run it smoothly it's going to take some serious optimisation to get a steady frame rate on 8 year old consoles!

On a positive note if they can sufficiently tweak the game to get it running on PS4/XB1 then hopefully these should carry over to the PC version and allow those of us on older PC hardware to play the game.

People with 3090 dont get more than 40fps on foot

If anyone's in the area, try landing at Basu's command (Raidenwitha 12 e)

I'm getting 35+ on foot usually, but at this settlement I get 50-60. (As I approach it's 50, but when I'm walking closer to the buildings it's solid 60)

So what's the difference between this settlement/planet/system and most others? If we can figure that out it could be a useful data point.

It has commandos on foot, not that many buildings, and a goliath in the sky. When I was there it had 3 sys defence ships circling overhead too.

Once I've finished here I'm going to try other settlements on this planet, and then others in the same system. If they're all 60 fps it's something about the system, and if some are slow and others aren't it's the settlement type, the buildings or the npcs.
