What reviews do you think this game will get?

I know most of you are hardcore fans of the series but even someone like me likes the game from what I have played(I never played a space sim like this before). However reviewers are another story, most of them are corrupt shills. Unfortunately their reviews do impact buying decisions.

So what do you think a game like this with niche fanbase will get?

I think it is worth 9.5/10 right now but I suspect it will get 7/10 and only higher from reviewers that played the original.

I don't think new/younger gamers will get it. (Horrible generalisation alert - but that's my opinion!) :)

I find most of the major reviewers are just corporate shills.

I almost never agree with their 9/10 ratings...once getting in to those games I find a lot of fancy polish on the surface but, pretty much, a big ugly turd once you get into it. Rarely are there truly great games, and those do get rated well. However, it is all washed out by the droves of garbage with a 9.

I almost completely agree with their 5/10 ratings or lower. When a game is just bad and doesn't have big publisher bribes then it gets reviewed honestly.

Its hard to say since we dont know what gamma will introduce.

From what we know and what can be speculated, im guessing reviews will be around 3/5.
I can imagine reviewers pointing out the stunning visuals and amazing audio, the potentials and possible future awesomeness, but Im also worried they will find the game lacking content and features and a proper multiplayer even though its been advertised as an MMO and a great multiplayer experience.
Especially the latter will pull the scores down unless addressed.

We really need to see gamma before we can answer this.
Possibly, the game will be praised for its graphics, audio, gameplay, rift implementation, and criticized for its lack of content and online functionalities.

This will heavily depend on reviewers : mainstream calladoody players, old spacesim fans, hardcore MMORPG players... the emphasis on qualities and downsides will vary heavily dependong on this factor. So I expect very different ratings depending on websites. I guess it will get better ratings on smaller websites...

We'll have a much better sense on Nov 22nd. If we were grading Beta 3 I'd give it high 7, maybe an 8.0., but I think we can expect there to be a bunch of New THings in gamma along with some much needed tweaks and fixes.

There are some nasty little reviewers out there who can't see past the nose on their face when it comes to a game. They won't admit it, but they really are "carebear" players, prefering games that give them auto aiming, story pointers and skills to make things easier for them. And these are the ones that complain about games not being sandboxed, or being too easy!

You can't win with such reviewers. They won't understand the concept of Elite that's been there from 1984 : Namely it's you, alone in a galaxy having to make your own way with a single ship and a few credits. I have a feeling they'll say it's boring with nothing to do, similar to the odd thread we've had on here from players that haven't quite got it yet (however, many do eventually :)).
-
They'll also criticise the things that hardened Elite players like, such as the vastness of the playing area and the fact that places do take time to get to, things do take longer to achieve, because you have to be more hands on. In a world of ever-decreasing attention spans and dumbed-down play, it won't sit well with them. It would be a massive mistake by FD if they catered to such people, though. It would destroy what Elite has always been. What they need to do is find a way of encouraging players to widen their expectations of what a game is to encompass those features of Elite that may well be open to criticism.

I think most reviewers will understand the fact that it's a sandbox game and that you basically start with nothing. But you can't talk about that aspect as if you can make your way through credits in infinite amounts of ways. There are very rigid methods put in place to obtain credits. The potential there is limitless, but there are actually only a handful of ways you can earn credits right now. These methods are certainly not as feature rich as they could (or will) be.

The depth of features in this sim/game as it stands very shallow, and I honestly don't see the drastic changes necessary to properly expand upon them in a next release.

With all that said, I am still very happy with the game only because I am familiar with the vision of where it wants to be. And I can't wait to see where it is in 2 years from now.

70%-ish, pointing out lack of obvious long term goals, story, group stuff, mission diversity, and a lot of functionality not really explained in the tutorials, I think. There are a lot of things I had to look up or watch others do before I figured them out.

Who cares? I like it so don't care what reviews it gets as it won't influence me one bit.

Same here. I pay very little regard to reviews to be honest and prefer to watch gameplay videos to assess whether a game is for me. Although as an avid fan of the original Elite, getting this was always a no brainer!

Reviews tend to only scratch the surface of games, particularly those without a storyline. I imagine that Elite is going to divide opinions greatly.

Some people won't scratch the surface enough to realise that the game is more challenging and in depth than most other games out there and will just be blown away by the visuals and combat.

Others will dig deep enough to realise that the game is hard but will give up because they are easily frustrated.

And some others will persevere and enjoy Elite for the challenging, detailed and deep game that it is.

I think it will garner more positive attention than negative (as the Beta has) but it will inevitably get bad reviews fro those who don;t bother getting better at it or those who are just vaiting for the next generic FPS...

Hi, I'm a games reviewer for a well known magazine. I have already submitted my review copy for Elite Dangerous after receiving an early copy of Gamma during the weekend.

I can PM you a copy of my review if you promise not to share it with anyone before it's published.

Depends on how much they manage to add before release.
Current build + a little more I think it will get an average 6 out of ten. Good foundation but not enough game.
If there's a ton of new content and polish etc.... then it could get up to an average 9. The mainstream press will probably be a mixed bag.

Will still play it regardless but won't tell friends to buy it till it's up to snuff.

Seriously? You've had the gamma version long enough to do it a 'proper' review? I'm sorry I find that highly dubious.
