What should our third Equid be?

Assuming we would get a third equid, which....while I don't have any particularly high on my own wishlist, I really think we should get one more...what would be good to see? I know we've discussed before but just gathering some data for numbers.

Thoughts on additions, and not just limited to:

Grevy's Zebra - iconic high profile zoo animal that we only have one of. A second would be great for variety.
Mountain Zebra - see above
Onagers and related - I'd probably go with the Persian Onager but there's other options. Frontier may have to think about the names of them though.
Kiang and related
Somali Wild - popularly requested and controversially named in terms of game inclusion.
Mustang - controversial as well but IMO a good North American representative
Donkeys, domesticated horse/pony breeds. Shetland Pony/Clydesdale as examples - more for the petting zoo inclusions

Tough pick between a better second zebra or the Somali wild donkey. I don't mind using wild animals to replace animals in petting zoos, having our third one locked to a petting zoo setting might be too restrictive

Honestly I personally think there are taxonomic groups that still need way more representation than equids (we already have two of the “main ones”). But if we were to get another, something that exists in completely different regions/habitats than the two we already have would be my go-to. This said, I think a domestic donkey or small/miniature horse breed would provide the most diversity out of what’s left for equids. Most modern zoos have a petting zoo/children’s section and currently PZ doesn’t have many species that fit in this niche. Also, most domestic donkey and pony breeds come from the Middle East & Europe, areas that currently aren’t represented by an equid in PZ right now.

I’m not particular on what donkey/pony breed would work best though. Ideally it’d be one that is pretty common in zoos/children’s parks. For donkeys, the Miniature Donkey or Poitou Donkey seem to be held frequently, and neither would be a bad inclusion imo. As for ponies, the Shetland Pony and Fallabella are some the world’s smallest breeds and are very common in children’s areas.

Plus, taking Frontier’s previous DLC rosters into consideration, animals with babies that have the “cute factor” seem to be typically headliners (bonus points if they are fluffy too). I mean, you can’t tell me that an Easter-related Spring DLC headlined by one of these two wouldn’t sell/appeal to the masses:

Definitely Somali wild donkey - first donkey to the roster, unique, endangered and most distinct looking.
I think that domestic donkeys are adorable but this is a zoo simulation not farm simulation. I know that there are petting zoos in real zoos but I have always preferred wild forms of animals and they can also be used in the game as domestic species we create right enclosures for them. Especially when young.

Personally I really don't care for more equids, two is enough for me but I'd definitely take the rest of them despite them not being on my wishlist.

That being said, I do think that the best next choice would be the Onager! We currently have one zebra, the horse... But no wild donkey! And out of the three species we have to choose from the onager is the most common in zoos and would be a great asset in helping represent Western Asia which is currently quite underrepresented. Also it is another desert species. It just makes the most sense.

Love them but they are to similar to P. Horse in coloration so I would prefer grayish African donkey.

I think the third Equid should be a donkey. But what species is hard to decide. I like the kiang but I also would not mind the other species or a domestic.

I'd really love any donkey!
But I think the mustang is a cool idea and would be a beautiful addition because of it's color variations!
And a Shetland Pony would be incredibly adorable!!

I’m currently not invested in any more equids. Knowing that frontier does tend to come up with some unpopular and unexpected additions, who knows. here’s my thoughts on equids.
Onager: we don’t have any donkeys, gives a middleastern rep
Mustang/Chincoteague ponies: this is one I am on the fence about. Yes there’s great color variety’s, yes they would work in many biomes of NA. Considering that planet zoo does stay true to conservation and we only have a few domesticated species.
African wild ass: we don’t have any donkey representatives. Just learned about them and why they are critically endangered.

What a lot of differing answers so far, which is cool. I forgot to list which one I’d want and its the Persian Onager. Even though it’s not high on my list it just feels like we should get one more equid

I see three real options: Grevy's zebra would work well in a situation where we're explicitly getting "clones" (I'm still holding out hope for a Biodiversity Pack); Somali wild donkey for a visually striking and critically endangered desert-dwelling donkey - it checks a lot of boxes; and the domestic (miniature?) donkey should we get a proper petting/children's zoo pack. I don't have a problem with the onager or kiang, but I think if we're getting a wild donkey it really ought to be the more visually striking Somali one.

Somali wild as. I only hope that Frontier would include them by their proper name. It's visually striking, critically endangered, and lives in the desert, an underrepresented habitat. Like the Przewalski's horse, Arabian oryx, and Scimitar oryx, may soon become one of the few species that is actually dependent on zoos for survival. As a bonus for everyone in the domestic camp, the Somali wild looks very much like a domestic donkey from the legs up. I understand the desire some people have for domestic species. If any domestics are added they should be species suitable for a walk-through exhibit to allow for set-up of a fake petting zoo. This rules out large breeds, like Poitou or mustang. I sincerely hope that Frontier never adds any feral species, like the mustang, brumbie, or Chincoteague pony.

I agree with the name thing. I felt personally attacked when we got the 'african' penguin. It's called a jack*ss penguin dammit. Everyone I know from Africa calls it that and it's mating call straight up sounds like a Donkey.
