What should our third Equid be?

Somali Wild for me. It is the cutest by far and a good conservation species.

A Mediterranean miniature donkey would be nice if they add a domestic pack, which I would enthusiastically buy but could also live without. I would not mind if they added the Shetland pony instead here, but I think the donkey would be better.

I like the look of the Kiang slightly better than the onager, but the onager would be a decent addition for West Asia.

While I like mustangs and other feral horses, I don't really think of them as zoo animals or want them in the game. I do think we are missing a wild donkey (or 2, 1 African and 1 Asian), and a domestic equid should be included if they add farm animals.

Somali Wild Azz would be the most interesting looking option, if you ask me...

I agree with the name thing. I felt personally attacked when we got the 'african' penguin. It's called a jack*ss penguin dammit. Everyone I know from Africa calls it that and it's mating call straight up sounds like a Donkey.
Really? Because every source I know of calls them African Penguin or Cape Penguin by default... probably because any of the Banded Penguins (genus Spheniscus) have received the "jackass penguin" title at some point.

I like any equid. Somali is good, probably the best one, but for me, a close 2nd is the domestic donkey. They're like neck and neck.

What about onagers? Are those in zoos?

I vote for Somali Wild Donkey, they are really striking, would fit into the conservation theme of the game and lets be honest, they are probably the most visually unique out of those options.

Onager are just as common as Somali Wild Donkey in Europe. My local zoo, Chester, is one of those. Other major European zoos with onagers include: Hagenbeck, Cologne, Magdeburg, Plzen, Helsinki, Berlin Tierpark, Chemnitz, Nuremberg, and more.

Grevys. They carry very little resemblance to our current zebra both in patterns and morphology and are in my opinion the second most interesting equid, next to przewalskis.

Surprisingly i completly agree on the morphology part. It really does look quite different. While ive been so so on them before i like them a good bit more now.

Onager or African wild asset… no need for more zebra and I have no desire for domesticated, at least until the wild animal roster is much more complete.

Banded penguins is a group of penguins also featuring the Humboldt, Magellan and Galapagos varieties because they all look almost identical. I don't much about South American penguins but I assume they probably all make the same donkey noise and and that is just the overall name for the group.i guess I learnt something new today.

While I would say that the African wild donkey should be our third equid, I do have to say I wouldn't mind seeing either the Grevy's or mountain zebra.

The Grevy's is the most unique in appearance, being larger and of different proportions to any other zebra, while the mountain zebra is representative of quite an unusual habitat of African desert mountains and in real zoos is supposedly the most docile zebra and is amenable to living in mixed exhibits - from everything I've heard, plains zebras can be very aggressive while Grevy's are so aggressive that mixing them is a real challenge. Also, there's a zoo here in the UK with all three species, so having options would be quite nice.

national zoo in DC note onager in their collections
The onagers owned by Smithsonian are kept in the Conservation biology institute so technically they are not kept at the National zoo. But as far as I know The Wilds and Cleveland do have them on display.

I'd argue that's a long way then. Heck, I don't even know if hte roster will ever be complete by the time the support ends.
