What sort of design would you like for Alliance ships?

Asymmetrical here too! Doesn't have to be like the Millenium Falcon, or Slave 1, the cockpit could just be slung underneath, or oddly placed engines etc.

Something totally different basically.

Asymmetrical will never happen in the game because they plan atmospheric flight at some point. People are already irritated with sitting off center in multicrew ships. Having the cockpit at the starboard side would completely freak people out.

I'd like to see a small Alliance fighter in the Eagle - Viper range with 4 small hardpoints, all on the sides like they are on the Diamondback Scout, so they have a maximum firing arc with gimbals and turrets.

We also still need a combat ship with nothing but 4 medium hardpoints that can compete with the Vulture.

Why? There is no unfilled combat role in the 4-25 Million credit price range for combat ships. What we really need is at least 1 more dedicated exploration hull that goes somewhere between the ASP's 6 Million and the Conda's 140 Million.

I also would like to see a medium sized combat ship approaching the price level of the Corvette with good jump range, agility, and firepower. Essentially an FDL MK2 / Python MK2 - Long range interceptor edition.

I like the Jerry rigged idea.

I think there should be a sense of continuity to the Elite series, in particular First Encounters.

This particular beauty, the Mantis, shows what I meant by cylindrical and spherical modules. I think the middle section could be made to look like one of these modules:

Maybe there should be a modular type theme running through the alliance ships, as if the design is voted for by a committee. Or with a chino/korean peninsula type look. Practical, cheap but a poor eye for design.

Definitely enjoying this thread. My personal preference for Alliance ships would be a particularly sleek look with sharp, clean lines and a hull with no fuss. Unlike the Imperial design sensibilities of rounded, smooth, vaguely organic looking curves, the Alliance design would be a minimalist assembly of points and blades that looks more grown than built, and having looked at Alliance ships from previous games that even seems to fit (I would dearly love a Wyvern explorer right now). The whole thing would like a knife flying towards you, perhaps a bit like an SR-71, and would likely excel at atmospheric flight.

I'm not sure about capabilities and internal compartments, but since the Alliance is built on trade they would probably sacrifice some defensive and offensive capability for speed and range and at least some cargo capacity. I've only taken a brief look but it seems that making them compete with Imperial and Federation ships could be tricky - Feds are built for combat and it seems Imps are built for... everything else. In fairness I have never and will never fly Imperial ships so I have no direct experience, but it doesn't look like anything's been left for Alliance ships except maybe jump range. I'd dearly like an armed trader - terrible hull but fantastic FSD and decent enough powerplant to keep shields up and/or weapons firing when needed.

Just me 0.02Cr worth.

Here's a few ideas:
1) Really push the retro-futurist look for alliance ships.
2) Maybe some inspiration from Russian military aircraft ie. sleek and powerful but unconventional to Western eyes. I'm thinking about designs like the Su-27, PAK-FA or even an Ekranoplan.
3) Twin hulls. Twin hull spacecraft are cool.

The alliance should pull out blueprints from some of the old ships that we don't see flying around and modernize them for the times.

Rank 1 ship: Krait
Rank 2 ship: Cobra Mk I
Rank 3 Ship: Boa
Rank 4 Ship: Panther Clipper

Well, the Alliance had Thargoid ties in a previous game. Assuming that's still canon, I'd love to see some very strange designs.

The ships should be a lot different than the Feds & Empire to reflect the wide range a Alliances
More steam punk
Like Serenity in Firefly:)

As far as I am concerned Serenity is one of the ugliest spaceship designs in the history of ugly spaceship designs with that weird little neck and that oversized head-like cockpit. I feel it looks like something that desperately needs to be put out of it's misery.

I heard somewhere that the Thargoids gave the Alliance a Thargoid battlecruiser many years ago-- it would be foolish of the Alliance to have such a ship in their possession and not learn a few things from its design
