What sort of design would you like for Alliance ships?

Found a few Millenium Falcon concept sketches that might be interesting.

The alliance should pull out blueprints from some of the old ships that we don't see flying around and modernize them for the times.

Rank 1 ship: Krait
Rank 2 ship: Cobra Mk I
Rank 3 Ship: Boa
Rank 4 Ship: Panther Clipper

Nice idea. The krait was a distinctive little ship, and the boa looked pretty cool. A sub-python would be pretty popular.

Something more exotic (for us Imps), like the Andromeda Ascendant:

Or the HOTDANG hot ol' Cylon Raider:

Or the Viper MK VII:

Or, OF COURSE, The Borg Cube!!!

I like to think that the alliance would be building ships that did the job, so we could see "Orb" freighters big spherical ship with a cockpit on one side and engines on the other, there could even be a series of them with bigger cargo space and each one would have an extra sphere joined on. The most efficient shape to enclose as big a volume as possible is a sphere, so why not use it. Their Viper equivalent, would be a long tube maybe with stub wings, for a stater ship I think an "Egg" shape would be cool. Basically look at how we would build something today to make as efficient use of materials, they would not be the best at anything but would be the most flexible ships.

Today we still have specialist vehicles, but I get your point.
Problem though would be, that a "good for all usage" ship would suck at any given task, due to the need to give up something to fill with a different need.
Now, in 3302, they will have such option i reckon, so a ship would be 'perfect for any condition', which will break the balance.

I'd like to see the Alliance ships have the same sort of "lived in" industrial texturing of the Star Wars Rebel Alliance ships.

Or maybe like the Nostromo from Alien. Personally I'd love a Nostromo styled heavy trader.

Bridge and engines down one end.

hangar and weaponry up the other.

About a kilometer of spine in between.

With standard shipping containers hanging off the spine.

About four thousand tons of cargo carrying capacity. Maybe more.

Enough to to change the economy of a system in one load.

Requiring a crew of fighters in the hangars because of no shields / weak points on the spine.
And usually traveling with an escort fleet.

Short jump range but massive fuel tanks.

A thing to give pirates a boner, but if it went to Harma, the government would turn corporate in half an hour.

Yes! I like that idea. Since the Alliance is so young have their ships look function-over-form.

Wouldn't asymmetrical be less functional though, surely the offset in center of mass / center of thrust would mean more fuel / energy used to compensate.

I like the idea of industrial and practical looks to the designs. What would the best armour design realistically be, sloped, curved or something else entirely?

Possibly have a buried bridge with VR technologies to view the outside world, though this would probably be too much of an unfair advantage in a game and impact on gameplay.

Here's a couple of ships done in Lego that show off the type of look I was taking about above. Sort of chunky and solid, with a sort of "that'll buff out" look to them.

OP, all that matters is the ships sit low to the ground and have the little chihuahua ornament on the dash with a head that goes up and down, back and forth, as you maneuver... oh, and they need to have flashy paint off the showroom floor!

My personal preference for Alliance ships would be a particularly sleek look with sharp, clean lines and a hull with no fuss. Unlike the Imperial design sensibilities of rounded, smooth, vaguely organic looking curves, the Alliance design would be a minimalist assembly of points and blades that looks more grown than built
The sort of thing I was thinking.

Still got to get it through the letterbox. Scrambled?

I've always imagined the Alliance vessels as being like the imperial vessels, but grown up. The way both an Aston Martin and a Lamborghini are supercars, but the Aston is the grown up one. Imperial vessels look like they are marketed to very wealthy men, who haven't matured out of their teens (Lambo), the Alliance feels like a faction that's full of wealthy men (and women), that are truly grown ups(Aston Martin).
