what the (censored myself) is that - Exploration is now much more time consuming -unplayable

They want to be bad system surveyors and not fly in supercruise so they can make more fake space bux per hour compared to pleb explorers like me who are dedicated to exploring whole systems rather than just the parts that get them the most fake space bux.

Started exoration two days ago and love everything that changed today with 2.2.

Plotting my routes with the "apply filter function" yet.

And the necessity of a detailed surface scan for the surface map is just totally logical.

Exploration is not about making lightyears. Don't mix exploration and travelling.

Speaking as someone who scanned every bit of NGC-7822 even though it had already been long surveyed by someone else, not everyone takes an exploration trip to survey entire systems. Some people are wanting to cash in, but others are just sightseeing, too, and honestly once you've seen your first red dwarf with 9 rocky bodies around it, you've pretty much seen them all. Nothing really wrong with just wanting to peek at one or two of the more interesting bodies and move along.

I personally like the idea of having to actually check things out instead of the game just handing it to me. More like this please! The further you move the 'endgame' away from where I am now, the more I will like this game. :)

Does the OP know that different celestial bodies make different sounds in the system map?
Does the OP know that Elite dangerous is not the everyday 'twenty hour game' ?
Does the OP realise that many sentient beings enjoy enormous challenges, and get bored if the work is removed, to the point that the journey is what creates the immersion for us in the first place?
Does the OP not think that increased rewards and more rewarding discoveries might be a better thing to ask for?

I'll leave this here.

Yes, but there is a point at which a challenge can become too much. That point maybe different for everybody BUT ... how about ..... we remove faster than light travel .... since its not possible anyway (immersion breaking). You should rellay enjoy the extra challenge of it taking years as you travel real time to other systems. You might see one before you die of old age. Should be very immersive.

Five pages of complaining about something that can be fixed by filtering out the asteroids from the contact list, which has been a feature since at least 2.1. Hookay then, please continue.

Scratching my head over that too. Most of us just used the system map back when there was no filter. I'm guessing the OPs computer is so slow, it takes 5 minutes to load it so he uses the side panel instead? [woah]

Ah, the good old days. But honestly, with the FOV at max you could always see the targeting holo from the contact list. Unless that has been changed, you can decide what your target is at glance. In addition of filtering it out. So yeah, I'm just as stumped as you are about this perceived problem.

The changes to how the system map shows the planets when scanned with an ADS is not as bad as I feared. It's changed YES, but I wouldn't go as far as to 'bin the game'.

My first system of unexplored planets showed TWO light beige planets with white at the poles - this says to me that they're HMCs - I go & scan them - they are RockIce worlds!

Next system the system map shows FOUR planets close to the Star, one a dark brown & three plain just off white - this says that the inner one is metal rich (from the blue hologram in the cockpit screen) & the other three are Ice worlds - I scan those - ONE metal rich & THREE HMC worlds.
BTW I don't have Asteroids showing on the system panel, Iv filtered them not to show & as far as recognising planets through the noise they make, I have so much background noise going on while playing Elite I wouldn't hear it if it shouted 'THIS IS AN ICE WORLD!!!!!!!'

Yes OP, there is a distinctive change in how the system map now views planets & I'm going to have to learn how to identify the planets again. Though I wouldn't throw a tantrum about it.
It's a change though it could be worse

its all based around the fact they want to see the map without putting in some travel and scanning time with a dss scanner ( those that want easy mode versus reasonable realistic mode)

Christ in boxer shorts.

You know what? Uncle.

Yes. I want easy mode. I want to have everything handed to me on a silver platter. I don't want to use my brain because that hurts. And I'm not a real explorer.

Forgot anything? :)

Well slap me silly and call me Nancy. Never even occurred to me.

*slap* Nancy!

Sorry, someone had to do it.

For me exploring means taking in the sights, looking for interesting things.
My journey to Jaques ... that was no exploration, that was a mad dash to get there on time (ok, I got sidetracked by a few shineys maybe).
On the way back, I was more relaxed, looked for beautiful sights, landed on planets that I found interesting, took in the views, took hundreds of lightyears detours to visit something that looked nice (in a 17 lys ship).

On Planet Wilson multiple CMDRs explored a single canyon for days. No credits to be earned here. Thats exploration for me.
I've spent days on planets just in my homesystem, and I will again. Looking for sights, persistant points of interest, the distribution of materials in the different nodes, the distribution of the nodes on the planet ...

Jump-Honk-Scan-Jump is travelling, not exploration for me.

Actually, it IS possible. Just because we can't right now, does not mean we never will. The science behind it is very real, we just aren't capable of that technology as of yet. Hyperspace/witchspace on the other hand, is not. Remember, despite what is more realistic or not, the game is based in the years of 3000+.

Thargoids (spell check?) aren't real, but everyone wants to see those in the game. Immersion isn't about what's real, it's about having a deep mental involvement in something.
