Powerplay What the heck happened with the PowerPlay cycle???

It's 7:15AM London time and the cycle has just ended! I've been fast tracking merits for the last 2 hours. There were no warnings, the servers were not rebooted and I ended up short of 10,000 merits by 310 merits! Not funny after spending nearly 5M credits for fast-tracking!

So, can anyone from Frontier dare to comment what happened?

The cycle ends at 7am GMT on Thursdays. This has always been so.

I'm sorry but that is simply not true. I've been pushing at the end of several cycles and it's happening at 8am GMT (or 3am EST). And before it's reset, there are warnings that the servers will be offline for about half an hour. There were no warnings for the last 2 hours and the servers were not rebooted.

The cycle has always ended at the time it ends at (for players outside of Britain)
No server outage, it just flipped, I delivered some fortification, and it was for the new cycle (then it want back to 0)

There was this neat little thing known as daylight savings, this might have screwed you over if you live in a country where the daylight savings happen as the clock is turned back 1 hour.

The missing warnings were the server restart countdown ones, which have only existed for two cycles or something like that previously. The server restart also didn't happen. The "imminent cycle" message in the comms panel did appear (twice in my case, including *along* with the salary one at the start of the new cycle). The restart was, as usual, at 7 GMT, which was until recently 8 BST (British summer time). GMT does not have "daylight savings". Are you certain you were not confused by the transition EDT->EST last Sunday?

To be clear, the behaviour this cycle transition is unprecedented; the game did not go offline, and provided some conflicting information in the meantime (implying that cycle was both done and imminent, and not updating most info until game restart). It has always been rather unclear why the servers had to go down, and for so long. Since FDev did not announce any change AFAICT, my guess is that they just missed shutting down, and we've now seen the resulting cache inconsistencies. If the shutdown itself is on daylight savings maybe it will happen an hour late (in about 15 minutes)?

Damn daylight savings! That's what happened. But how can they now end the cycle without rebooting the servers? Like I said, I did push to the very end many times and that's the first time I see the cycle ending without the servers rebooting.

In any case, I think that for something as important as a PowerPlay cycle ending, they should broadcast a message as a warning, so that everybody is on the same page.

EDIT: I did get the initial message when I logged in almost 3 hours ago that the end of the cycle was imminent in my comms but it disappeared as soon as I jumped to a different system. I didn't get any other warning.

In any case, I'm really upset that I missed it by less than 15 minutes and came short of 310 merits. Not fun! :(

Oh man, screwed by daylight savings! That guy loves screwing with peoples schedules. 310 credits, that's super harsh, I feel for you.

I and several other were kicked offline right as it 'completed' (23:15 PST), and were forced to restart the client because were were getting error messages about 'not able to restore session' or somesuch. Probably just a glitch somewhere as the database updated the cycle information.

Protip: Don't wait until the last minute to fast track, Mr Murphy is always watching, and he doesn't like you. :D

You do get a message.
I got one, on the right hand info screen and an email in the left hand tab.
But hey carry on blaming everyone but yourself

I was out doing some exploration on the way home from picking up some CG cash last night when things just shut off suddenly an hour before normal, with no warnings...guess that explains it. I'll have to get used to 2AM instead of 3AM EST for the forseeable future due to daylight savings...

Like I said, I got the email in the comms panel (left hand side tab) but I never got any other warning, certainly not the one you're talking about in the right info screen.

I'll suck it up and keep at it. Just delayed by a week. It's strange that some are reporting they were kicked out of the game by the servers while I've played uninterrupted for at least 3 hours. I think the communication should be better for something as important as the end of a PowerPlay cycle. It's a week of work, it'd be nice to really know where we stand.
