What to do now?

I finally made triple Elite, been to Colonia, Sag A, Beagle point and got most of the badges in EDSM.

Tried all the ships and got a nice fleet of specialist vehicles, but there is only so much grinding you can do.

Apart from deep space exploration or doing EDSM distance mapping I can't think of anything that will keep me coming back.

Any thoughts?

I am currently doing this, inspired by the legendary Isinona. And also inspired by them, I have made a kind of a soft reset: I spent all my money on ships and modules, moved to a remote system, and started with a freewinder. Also not allowed to rebuy a ship upon destruction. I actually moved to California Sector (because California is where you go to start a new life, obviously) but I'm not sure I would recommend it because there's a very limited selection of, well, anything...

Or maybe this will give you some other ideas: https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/iGshwtbCnTEHX944Uxb69P.jpg

I've got an Alliance challenger set up for rescue and was thinking of joining the fuel rats.

looks like I'll have to go CQC /c: <shudders>

I used to Fuel Rat... got 25 confirmed rescues. Makes you feel good to help others.

But that was before the galaxy map showed "fuel star" on your plotted course. And it was also before the starter zone. I feel like both of those changes have probably affected the number of calls the Rats get.

Even back then, as a Rat, I would spend hours sitting outside a station somewhere and watching an IRC chat screen waiting for a chance to go on a rescue. Once the dispatcher got the location of the person needing help, all the rats would plot courses to that location and report how many jumps away they were. The dispatcher would tell the two closest Rats (by number of jumps) to go and the race was on. On the way to the rescue, the person needing help would send friend requests to the two Rats and you'd all get in a wing together. Getting there first didn't always mean you'd be the one to complete the rescue, though. We all know how fickle the instancing system is in elite. On one occasion, after several failed attempts to drop from supercruise to the person needing help, I had to get them to go to supercruise and drop on me when I dropped before we finally ended up together (luckily they still had enough fuel to do that).

If you decide to join the Rats, you'll want a really big jump range. Today I would probably use a Diamondback Explorer (since I have one with a 74LY range), no shields, no weapons, A-FSD level 5 range engineered w/deep cycle, Guardian FSD booster, 4A fuel scoop, 1A limpet controller, 2E cargo rack, 3A power plant (lighter than a 4D), and D-level: thrusters, life support, and sensors. I'd wait until I got to the person before synthesising the limpets (synthesizing makes 4) just to stretch that range as far as possible.

You'll still spend a good deal of time sitting and waiting for a call though. You might want to have something else to entertain yourself while you wait.

But yeah... it's still worth it.

I think at the end of 24 hours of constant boost, averaging 500m/s you'd have traveled about 43,200km, but the moon is like 340,000km. You'd likely run out of fuel. You would need almost 8 days of constant boost averaging 500m/s to reach the moon from Earth, but that's surface to surface and we cannot get to either so subtract that distance.

Thx, I meant game mechanic wise as in you have to enter SuperCruise. Maybe a D rated Cutter with only fuel tanks on board and FA off might make it. :)

AFAIK it should work, except there'll be one problem : both Earth and Moon move.

As soon as you reach the distance where the Game (in a rather digital manner) stops syncing your Ship with the Orbital Velocity of the nearby Gravity Well, both Earth and Moon are likely to drift away from you. When that happens, even an Imp. Eagle can't keep pace.

(due to some bugs, some Tourist Beacons and in the past even Orbital Installations weren't synced with the Player... that meant your Tourist Beacon drifted away from you at some tasty 250-350km/sec ;) )

PS.
Earth Orbital Velocity arond the Sun is ~107000 km/h, meaning it's moving at 29722 m/s.
No chance to do it in any Vessel once desynced from Earth and not yet synced with the Moon.

Hmm, (strokes beard) I wonder how they managed it back in 1969?

Hehe, they didn't have that digital Sync that we enjoy in ELITE.

You can easily spot it when approaching any Moon in fast Orbit. It'll drift left/right like crazy when approaching it closely in SC , until it suddenly stops drifting entirely.
That's the moment the Game syncs the own Ship with the Gravity Well's Orbital Velocity.
Looks quite funny but is needed in one way or another, otherwise some Moons couldn't be catched up with at all or at least create severe difficulties.
