Newcomer / Intro What to go after Viper

So i've had this viper for a couple of days now, its worth just under 1 million credits with the upgrades i've put into it and so far i've saved up 560k, I'm enjoying the ship but lately I feel like the wanted ships i'm fighting could die a little quicker, so I'm wondering what type of ship i should look at flying next, I'd like to move into a heavier harder hitting ship that can take as much damage as it dishes out, though i'm not opposed to a glass cannon style ship.

Any suggestions?

well cobra is not really a upgrade when it comes to packing a punch, its just more versatile. so i guess you have to aim for one of the big boys.
asp probably i guess, or clipper/dropship

yeah i just realised how silly my question is really, there just aren't that many ships and the next ones up are a lot more expensive, the clipper looks pretty sweet though, i'll have to start sucking up to the empire i guess.

Asp or Python.
If it is too much to grind/pay - then progress your viper to all-type-A or try Cobra.
Keep in mind that bigger/more expensive ship will cost more in maintenance, upgrades and insurance. So you will need a little planning if you don't want to be disappointed when "something went wrong".

I'm a bounty hunter by trade and I've tried both the Asp and Cobra out with full 'A' fittings and actually come back to the viper. I've been meaning to make a video but I did do a quick write up on how to kill elite anacondas in a well kitted viper, here we are:

- Scan with KWS at the start for extra goodness (obviously!)
- Target his power plant (you can sometimes finish him by destroying that while his hull is still up near 50%)
- 4 pips weapons, 1 pip in the others
- Lasers for the shields, lasers and multis for his hull (I pack 2x Class 1 gimballed beam lasers, 2x Class 2 gimballed multi-cannons)
- Keep him between 1-1.5km by setting your thrusters to about 25% reverse
- Circle around him using thrusters spamming your chaff as often as possible and shield cells when necessary. (I pack 1 chaff and an A3 shield cell)
- Most important thing is to avoid his plasmas
- If your weapon power gets low, multis only for a while to let heat drop

I very rarely even have my shields drop against the elite anacondas from the assassination missions, and anything smaller is a piece of cake. An Asp will kill anything up to the size of another Asp faster than a Cobra or Viper, but against pythons and 'condas I find the Viper king.

Python or Clipper are your choices then. But Python got better hardpoints placement IMO.
Asp with 2 fixed beams, 4 MC, chaff and shield cells - never had problems with 'condas ;)

how much of the vipers weapon loadouts have you explored?
it has allot to give if you want to upgrade its punch.
all of them might not be cost effective, but if you just want to watch the world burn you can pretty much set it up to one volley smaller ships.

Rails - love them in any shape since Quake :) Missiles - "Ha-ha, take that now!" style, love it.
So it doesn't matter if you have 4 or 6 of any of those - world will burn ^^)

This sounds like a really worthwhile tactic, i'll need to practice it and rebind some things on my joystick to make it work though

Shooting Power plant is the easiest way to destroy big ships. So if you aim to make "BOOM" and you can perform needed maneuvers - just target his/her Power plant :)
