What to us for some bounty hunting? Cobra or Vulture

You don't. A grade class 4 is weak. I'd double check tonite but IIRC, it's around 16MW. Your dual beams are eating something like 4MW from that. The you need around 4MW for thrusters. Then add something like 3MW for shields and you don't have much power to spare (you still need to power defensive mounts, sensors, power capacitor, etc).

And 10 straight seconds of fire with dual Beams ? Even at 4 pips I doubt I could get 5 seconds of continuous fire (and they recharge in a similar amount of time, if not more).

Beams do insane damage but not for long and then need to wait for capacitors to recharge.

Don't let these huge burst of damage fool you. You can't fire them more than half of the time. But then again it's all about one's personal style of dogfighting. Continuous pulse fire still depletes shields and destroys power plants within seconds.

I edited my one post to kinda give an idea how I have plenty of power. Not EVERYTHING is maxed out. And I likely don't have enough stuff to survive pvp much. However, pvp is not an issue with my bounty hunting :) I'll equip a second c3 when I find one and see how much that eats up. But one c3 and one c2 literally gives me plenty. Add me on xbox, I've recorded plenty of my combat :)

edit: when I get on again I'll give my full loadout atm. I pulled in 6.6mill one time in an hour in an ungodly spawn I got. There was ALWAY 3 large ships at all time, and they usually flocked around me to scan me lol, and I don't carry cargo so they don't jump me.
edit2: oh and this was with hudsons +50% bounty boost, in Kremainn.

Save up an extra million for two 500k beam lasers on the vulture and then you'll suddenly destroy everything and then buy two C3 beam lasers and then it'll be even more amazing

Vulture doesn't have enough Available power to mount 2 C3 beams and fit C or better shields and thrusters. and you want at least B rank thrusters.

Id argue you certainly don't need top shields fr bounty hunting. I don't recall what I have right now but I'll check soon. I'll als be testing with a 2nd c3 soon ( if I can find one )

I suspected as much :)

Yes, I don't have A maxed everything either, but of course if you're willing to sacrifice some survivability and do some other compromises (which is definitely acceptable as bounty hunting as it is right now can be a pretty safe hobby) you can mounts heavy Beams and tear stuff apart with them (and still be able to power the ship in combat).

But even if I love my Vulture, one can't deny Power isn't one of its strength ;)

Edit : Also, mounting Bursts of even Pulses is a very good "compromise" (as long as they're rank 3) as they allow for a bit more headroom in the power department, don't eat as much cooling capacity, and still pack quite a punch.

What I'm trying to say is "don't give up on the Vulture if you have a hard time powering Beams". Less powerful guns are still very powerful and you will kill a lot of ships using them.

Oh don't get me wrong. It certainly is a weakness. Ecspecially coming from a cobra where I simply didn't have to worry about it.

I've flown hours'n'hours in the Vulture with C-class Thrusters, and it's fine. It's just so fast to start with that the extra 1MW for A-class isn't that much of an issue, and using it for something defensive is more appropriate for the times you get out-jousted. A couple of Eagles can be a pest of an opponent!

I went with twin gimballed Bursts to obviate some of the power/heat issues, but you can mix it up a bit with one Beam and one Burst if you still want the odd overheat. Twin Beams are harder to work with, and the Thermal Overloads at critical moment (Surge Detected for Clippers most often. Ta ta bounty) ended up driving me mad!

If you're wanting to do something very anti-Vulture, I once (shame on me) put one turret onto it, Burst I think, when going into a tough bounty hunt, along with a gimballed Burst. I could have been drinking a bit, but I think that the Anaconda went down really easily. I might try it again, if only for the ridiculousness of it. :)

are turrets good? I tried them out ages ago but was disappointed with there accuracy, in that I was flying pretty steady and around 1k distance watching them miss like crazy.

Id never be able to run fixed beams with the controller set-up I was bad enough in combat with a mouse and keyboard but Gimball works ok tho Id love some turrets and just leave the shooting to the computer :)
Im a good pilot but a poor combatant

Bulkheads i1
power a4
thrusters c5 ( not had higher, no need to for me so far. This is plenty )
fsd a4
life support e3
distributor a5
sensor a4
fuel 8,8,4
shield e4 ( not needed anything more, rarely lose my shield)
interdictor e1
fuel scoop b1

hardpoints
1 c3 beam
1 c2 beam
warrant scanner
14.79mw deployed
15.60 max

ill be trying 2 c3s soon.

Ok so I equipped a second c3 beam laser.... My reaction...... OMFG! It's simply amazing. Still no power issue and the damage increase makes up for the quicker time of running out of power. I'm in love all over again!

Well, ever since the maintenance I can't land a decent spawn at all. What's even more weird is I'm starting to see mixed spawns that I didn't even know was possible ( small ships with the occasional big ship stopping by ). Surely they did not nerf this I hope ( I should have kept my mouth shut and reaped the profits ). Hopefully it's just bad luck and not a nerf. But these mixed spawns really have me confused about what I am seeing.

OK, so after my initial post I did a bit of bounty hunting and got a bit more in the coffers. I went to a nearby system where I know they sold the Vulture. Exchanged it for my kitted out Cobra and then went to outfit my new ride with some juicy beam lasers......then realised that I only had about £240,000 credits left! My back back was £246,000!!! !! Where did all my money go?!

Decided to not swap it back to the cobra as I'd lose out more. So being very careful with my cobra trying to do a few missions to up the money again.

Gutted!

What? So you sold your cobra for vulture again, and then once again sold the vulture for the cobra? Your going to lose a lot of money if you make that a habit.

Yep,

although I stupidly thought the trade in values matched the full amounts!

I have no learned my lesson (shame)

I stuck a 1F Beam Turret under my Cobra to try out. I've read negatives about Turrets. So far I'm impressed; doesn't seem to match the negatives. It is most always on target and firing before I am; mode is Target Only.

I am just putting together a Bounty Hunter Viper and stuck two Beam Turrets on the small top mounts. Mode will be Target Only. Hopefully I will be better able to see their actions and any problems.

Luv how the reticle sweeps across the canopy as I key:Next Ship. It's like the little guy has my back
