Whatever happened to the Panther Clipper?

There's also the possibility that the Panther is a type of unlock/reward/found Raxxla
As for Raxxla, nobody ever found it in the last 37 years. It is a joke Braben put in to mock with us for the entire time. I bet there is a deactivated beacon named Raxxla on some asteroid in a locked system you will never be able to enter. If somehow someone ever found it he surely got a nervous breakdown and wiped the game from his harddisk and never played Elite again.

Just to correct you slightly ... Braben didn't invent Raxxla, Rob Holdstock did in the Novella "The Dark Wheel" which came with Elite in 1984 (although the name Raxxla was in an earlier story by Rob Holdstock, but had nothing to do with Elite).

Raxxla as a mythical something that no-one knows the location of, has not been in any of the Elite games until Elite Dangerous, and even then only once an entry for it in the codex was added (this doesn't include any rumour of it existing or any comments on Raxxla by Michael Brookes or David Braben as until Raxxla is found in-game, those will remain rumours).

Yes, Holdstock invented Raxxla and the Dark Wheel in "The Alien World" in 1980, under the alias of Steven Eisler.

The same thing that happened to the Tiger Trader, the Imperial Explorer, and Gecko.

FD never committed to adding it.

Therefore, as others have said, nothing happened to it.

I think there are easily enough ships for the time being and I’d rather they spent their time fixing things and adding other types of gameplay.

The Panther was clearly planted to troll those breaking the terms and conditions and data mining the code.

They have said in the past that the Panther Clipper wouldn't be in ED. 🤷‍♂️

the AI doesn't really have a clue fighting SRVs.
In my experience, the AI very much does have a clue about fighting SRVs. At least not in CZs (I have no experience in CZs yet). They know to try to dodge an on-coming SRV (though often too late), and will happily pour energy weapons into an SRV's shields.

I never try to run them over, I simply whittle down the enemy from distance. Only sharpshooters pose a threat, and if they get a lucky hit that you don't manage to dodge (plasma shots fly like imp fireballs when there's some distance), you can just drive away to recharge shields (this also very often causes the NPCs to reset to patrol mode, giving you another chance to start the battle on your own terms). Medium and short range enemies on the other hand are just happy to run towards you, while you lazily reverse away and chew them with the SRV turret...

I am still waiting on the Panther.
How much cargo do you would like to carry with this ship. So how much total cargo you expect?
Just asking some stuff in the round.
Or do you don‘t care on that, what are you hoping to get from it, maybe the moveable vertical thrusters etc.? :)

If you go by Alioth.net (which you shouldn't) a Panther Clipper would have three times the payload of an Anaconda and quite likely - although this is a speculation of mine - be too big for the mail slot of most starports for this very reason.

It'd probably be longer than a T9. So, length rather than girth.

I'm now going for a shower after that comment.

It wouldn't be too big for the mail slot. It would fit. Just look at the design. It is set up to fit on a large pad.

How would you guys like to see it kitted out? Personally I'd like to see 4 medium and 4 small weapon slots.. a good 25-30% more cargo space than the T9. An abnormally large jump range as it would be the main cargo hauler for bulk trading. Stong shields and armor. So basically a turtle ship.

Sounds good. However being too large for the Mailslot would make it feel more like it's not just an upgrade from the T9. It could still land on Planetary based, carriers or megaships.

I mean, in Elite II: Frontier it didn't fit through the mail slot, you had to auto-dock and stick it on max fast forward to enter a space station.

It´s mainly a nostalgia thing.

So that makes the type 9 pointless at the large range. If it comes as a large ship and not as huge maybe on a later point, then it needs his raison next to the other large ships and not over the top.
For me is the T9 the heavy bulk trading ship. If the Panter get 25-30% more Cargo (with what i can live) then it need just as a example less armor and speed.

but if it’s huge :D then you can have all of this and add another 100% cargo space to it ^^
