What's that hole for?!

I've always wondered- why when you dock, whether it be at a star port or surface station is there a giant empty chasm of darkness? I can't see anything that would really necessitate the need for a massive chasm... Anyone else wonder that?!

It's blood you just can't see it boiling in the darkness, don't look man, for god sake don;t look!

I have no idea what you're talking about. A screenshot would help.

I saw a video on YT where a guy got his ship stuck in the fighter bay access port of a Capital ship...

One must be vary careful of "the hole". It has a very strange property. You see, if you fill the hole half way, you don't have half a hole. You still have a whole hole. And that's just Creepy!!;)

Eh? What are you talking about?

Let me clear this up.

If you enter the hangar and go to the debug camera look down under the platform. You will see a bottomless abyss.

To the OP, it was just not an important detail to model.

1) non critical to the game as you cannot see it from the usual cockpit view

2) clearly only weirdos like us notice.

Stations are modular-built to a standard design. The people who make them have to accomodate a wide variety of end users and their specific needs.

The bottomless chasm is there to serve the small, but vital, supervillain and dark lord markets.

Just in case serious: Even without the BottomlessShaftInScifiPropertyTM, I would certainly expect there to be multiple levels, so that each pad can receive several ships, even though we are currently always brought to the top one. Otherwise one could argue: "why even bother having the lift?"

I'd also expect that the longer a ship remains idle in hangar, the farther it is shifted down the floors, to keep active pads clear, and that there would be less in the way of facilites the lower you go, with the bottom ones very compact and unlit, purely for storage. (...although, maybe the top ones should not offer outfitting; Only loading/embarking/replenishing services.)
