I am currently running an Asp explorer kitted out for trading and fighting, all my internal bays are used up. What am I going to have to sell to fit an SRV hanger in? As far as I can gather I am going to have to sell my 64 slot cargo rack to fit one in! Does this sound right or am I missing something?

You could dump the smallest cargo pod, assuming you haven't loaded up the smaller internals with other things (scanners, hull mods, etc...) and fit a hangar there.
I'd definitely avoid using a hanger though. Hanging an SRV off of your ship is going to cause all sorts of problems. It''ll get in the way when you're landing, get hung up in the mail slot, and the intertia when you're flying may cause hull damage or rip the SRV and hanger off altogether. Then you'd have to go chase it down and try to reattach it.

Do keep in mind that a vehicle hangar cannot be installed in a class 1 module slot
I swapped one of the class 3 internals for an planetary vehicle hangar. With all the other bits and pieces fitted it still gives me 64t cargo space. Could go higher but for now using my docking computer as a stand in when I need an AFU. Have a fuel scoop and both scanners fitted, so the ship is ready to roll whatever I feel like doing with it
