Newcomer / Intro What's the difference between high security and medium security

What's the difference between high security and medium security I know it's to do with police but what I've noticed that in some high security zones police don't turn up that much and in some medium security zones there always around so is it their presence so the appear more often or is it their effectiveness so they kill quicker.. has anybody noticed

The number of authority ships you see flying around in supercruise are fairly random but are influenced somewhat by system states like civil unrest, lockdown, incursion, etc. The key difference is in their response time when you are attacked. In a high sec system authority ships arrive within 5-10 seconds of the first hit on your ship, in a medium sec. system it takes a 1-2 minutes or so while in a low sec system it can take 5-10 minutes if they appear at all. In an anarchy system no authorities appear ever (of course).

Brilliant thanks. I'm wondering why sometimes high security didn't respond at all in some cases? It's their response also influenced by whether you're interdicted or whether you reach the mission zone?

Your friendliness towars the local faction also affects response time. They're much faster coming to the aid of Friends and Allies. I don;t know if SUperpower Rep stacks witht his as well.

FInally, speed of security response time also depends on where you are in-system when the attack occurs. Look down in the bottom left corner of the cockpit view to find out "where you are". Being attacked in the vicintiy of a high-population inhabited planet owned by the system-controlling faction will result in a very rapid response. "Shipping lane" is also a rapid response. "Deep Space" is slowest response.

And yes, they actually have to hit you, while you have "Report Crimes Against Me" turned on, to get a police response. Just shooting in your general direction won't do it.
