Engineers What's the point of engineers without proper storage?

It's called Player Management CMDR.

You own ship's not Pawn Stores.

By keeping to a defined amount of storage capacity, you have to 'manage & prioritise' what is important to hold on to & what to let go.

I never used to collect 'Carbon' - I always left it, never used it. Last night I had to go out in my SRV & find some because I now need it in an upgrade.

So I'm to acquire, combat and salvage random space trash using the same ship just because I cant store my cargo in station/outposts? is this game still in alpha stage?

You can store modified modules/weapons in a spare ship, though.

Your cargo is now automatically transferred into the hold of your new ship when you change ships.

It's called BAD GAME DESIGN simple as that.

Yea this sucks totally. No modified equipment storage, no real raw material storage, very strange arrangement for a so called mmo.

I think its totally and utterly unacceptable and this is one of the things I hate about this so called 'mmo'.

You people can try and put what spin on it you like but it is really immersion breaking and makes me feel disconnected from the game environment.

No! Surely not....I thought any modified module was a non-transferable ship specific upgrade

Engineer-modified modules can be sold from one ship and rebought in another ship just like in 2.0 and earlier. Tested this with a modified pulse laser, and it worked.

As a new player, I also don't want to spend endless hours researching about all the engineers I may find some day once I get advanced enough. Not to mention trying to figure out which bits I should hold on to dearly and which I could easily sell and get again later. My small ship simply can't keep enough to be helpful even if it is something valuable. It almost seems like they're not interested in getting new users, they're trying to lure the old users back.

In the process they're missing the mark for both.

lol, like MAGIC in a game that tries to be as realistic as possible?
Yes, MAGIC. I've always thought that when I've taken a box out of one vehicle and put it in another vehicle standing near it :)
.
I still think Storage is a requirement though. Preferably Magic storage that follows you around the universe (sod realism, it's overrated) :)

As a brand new player, you may be right about ignoring engineers.
However, once you get to the point of being able to buy A-Rated modules (I don't see the point modifying anything less), the low level upgrades use relatively common materials so you can realistically gather those when you actually need them. It's mainly the high level upgrades than need rocking-horse excrement.
.
In the mean time, maybe you can think long-term? E.g. Submit your Combat bonds to Tod's station and submit Exploration data at Felicities station (Both only possible after un-locking them which is not that difficult). You still get the credits and rep-gains, but your status with those engineers is boosted too. So, by the time you want their services you will have access to the better mods (once you get the components).
.
Hopefully storage will be around by then as it was mentioned as being high on the to-do list in a recent live stream.
.
Currying favour is exactly what I'm doing. A 3 hour honk and jump exploration session (Advanced scanner a must for this) got me half way to Level-4 mods with Felicity last night.

None of the stuff you pickup for engineers takes up any cargo space. It goes into the same space that all those rocks you pickup on planets go to and you can hold 600 before you have to discard something.

I like the idea of Engineers I really do...cos I've always enjoyed the "Missions" part of Elite
But I think its a CRAZY decision that if (for example) I want to upgrade the weapons on my Vulture (a pure combat build) I have to strip out Combat equipment - Armour/Shields etc...and install Cargo Racks/SRV Bays...to acquire Materials to upgrade my weapons...then strip them out and re-install Combat Modules after I've upgraded...
Oh and then say I unlock or discover a new Engineer...go back through the same process again and again and again...
It seems ridiculous I can't go off in my Multi-Purpose Cobra...Salvaging, Scavenging and Mining...get a cargo hold FULL of the stuff Engineers want...then use that to buy modules for my Combat Ship...
Its essentially like saying...in the real world I drive a Truck to earn a living..BUT I want to buy a new stereo/CD player for my car...to do that...I need to park up my truck...strip out the Seats etc in my Car...make a load of small deliveries in my Car...and use THAT money to buy the new Stereo...cos only money I've acquired in THAT car is eligible to buy ITS Stereo...

Agree with OP. Unless I get some sort of station storage compartment, I'll leave Engineers alone. The gameplay changes that came with 2.1 is enough for me. :)

It was more important for FRONTIER to spend credits and resources to work on the RNG then an Inventory system... this point is just laughing me !
