If there are any comments by Frontier about this, would you be so kind as to point me to them?

At Lavecon it was announced that salvage will be a service accessible in the Contacts section of Station Services, rewarding good prices for strange things found out in space and on planets, such as escape pods, Rebel transmissions, blueprints, artwork etc.

Errr yeah, this was one of the Lavecon announcments. There's going to be a new station service where you can hand in escape pods and other forms of salvage. There were some screenshots as I recall that included a progress bar suggesting that salvage had its own targets or rankings?

Oh yes I remember that, it was announced : a special contact dedicated to salvage. Long overdue if you ask me. Thanks Alec. And Zulu Romeo, always glad to hear from you mate :) )

Thank you guys.

As you can tell, I could have payed better attention to LaveCon. :D

Well it's about bloody time. There are tons of pilots not in the PF laying about the galaxy in pods, nobody picking them up because drawing down the heat for literally saving lives is silly.

Also, I'll be able to make my Fred Sanford junk ship and fly around hauling salvage listening to Quincy Jones. I would get the stabbity ship kit for that role.

Not sure what you are trying to say here. All Escape Pods have been legal salvage for a number of releases now.

Firstly, there must be a destination system/planet/station/settlement etched on each pod,for reward.
Secondly, reward should be scaled to delivery distance.
Thirdly, I'm off to Beagle Point. Billions!!!! Yum :D

I hope the current mechanic for salvage missions is completely scrapped when the new system is implemented. As it is now, all you have to do is fly to the target system and honk the discovery scanner and you're practically done. Before this you had to drop in on a few USS before you found what you needed. Searching should be a part of search and rescue/salvage game play in my opinion.

I actually find this a welcome change. We should have some idea what we are scanning for and therefore some idea when we've found it, the current model of 'mission USSes' is ideal, and is needed for players that aren't used to having to find their own way and in the absence of guidance would assume the game is broken. Of course I'm not saying I want Elite to pander to entitled minimum investment gamers, but there is a balance to be struck and I think this model achieves it.
