What's with the hyperactive limpets?

I'm scrounging Thargoid components at the Titan Cocijo in the Sol system, and I am using a simple 3A Collector Limpet Controller that controls 2 limpets at a time.

When the limpets are 'idle', it apears that in fact they are anything but! They quite literally run rings around my Type 8, whereas before they used to be much more well-behaved and sit quietly just below my ship's cargo hatch.

Is this a new feature for collector limpets? I've been far out in the Black for a good while, and I haven't used collector limpets a lot during that time, so I may have missed the 'upgrade' to hyperactive limpets.

Or, could it be that this is something that happens around a Type 8, around Thargoid wreckage, or something else? Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm not entirely sure this is the same thing as I'm describing. The pickup system works perfectly, it's just when the limpets are idle, they fly round the ship rather than just sitting under it. It's not a problem, except for the constant noise; it's just different. They collect things just fine, though.

This behavior came new with the Trailblazers update. Since it dropped, they do this little dance. It's funny and I kind of like it, but I don't know why it was introduced. Maybe it has to do with the behavior of them getting stuck when picking up certain items, like pods at power signal sources.

Yes it's definitely a new behavior and I assume it's intentional. When you get a lot of limpets doing this your ship looks like a boss from an old 8 bit shmup. Probably a nice way for the devs to get a bit more use out of those Thargon Swarm formation patterns they developed.

I love this little change to limpets, it also makes it clearer when you have them, how many (well, more than 1 anyway), and they are cute.
But now that you've mentioned it, I want them to perform more complex choreographies, based on Thargon Swarms!

I've occasionally seen a limpet trying to deliver its item get stuck in orbit over and under my Python. Rolling and pitching the ship around seems to fix it eventually. I like the new circling idle behaviour though.

If you were doing serious pods or wreckage collection before the update, if there was a server hiccup, which is often, the limpets would all clog up the cargo hatch and be unable to unload. The new behaviour seems to fix this, I guess by ensuring the limpets don't all pile up in the same location

sad. It doesn't usually happen, though. I guess I shouldn't be surprised given that limpets already clip through everything else (cargo hatch says hi)
What annoys me most about their clipping behaviour (even though it's been improved recently) is that they are (were) very good at clipping to go inside an asteroid/megaship, but completely unable to clip back out 🤭

The privilege then left to goods stuck inside, instead.

After the last update collector limpet drones have changed behaviour. When there is no valid collection target they circle below the ship making their constant whiny noise. Not a problem at first but after an hour of mining tritium for the fleet carrier out in the black its enough to drive you insane. They used to sit quietly below the ship till needed. this behaviour has also slowed down collection as they often do a couple of orbits before going off to collect the targets. Who in their right mind thought that this was a good idea. It wasn't broken don't fixit. In no way is it a quality of life improvement. Its just a complete pain in the ass.

It fixes a different bug where the limpets would just pile up next to the cargo hatch and not drop anything off. Them stalling would have happened before the change was made (I think some issue serverside they haven't sorted) but without the circle loop they just get stuck, the circle loop lets them try to drop off continuously until it sticks.
