What's with the T7 hate?

Price isn't nearly the balancing factor it was back in the old days.

The T7 could at least do with a resize to a medium pad, and/or a bigger FSD to give it Type 6 like range (or maybe even better). Not quite Anaconda good, but maybe AspX good (with an empty cargo hold of course).
Perhaps a T8 (flat top). It would have a medium pad, more cargo than a Python but not be able to multirole for combat. Bring on the T8!

I had a T7 briefly during the Sothis Gold CG. It was a ship I wanted to like but ended up loathing every second I had her. Maybe I was spoilt because I'd been flying a Clipper and an Asp X. The plus points it has over it's two main competitors (the Clipper and the Python) are good range and fuel economy. I've also heard that it's supposed to have exceptional yaw characteristics in supercruise so in theory it should be good at the interdiction mini game.

In practice I found the T7 slow to the point of being ponerous, under equipped and tending to run hot. For short haul it's completely outclassed by the Clipper and Python. For long haul I'd rather risk it in a trade optimised (minimal shield) Asp X as I have more confidence that it might reach it's destination.

The T7 is simply a flying coffin. It's powerplant can't power sufficient shields and weapons, so it runs with paper shields and hardly anything to fight with. The hull isn't exactly stable, and it's not fast enough to run. IMO when you fly a T7, you either feel lucky or have a deathwish.

It's a trader, you run. Fit mines or nothing at all.

It has been more successful in interdictions than my AspX and Python.

In the olden days, T7 was excellent due to it's fuel economy (yep, fuel was expensive these days).

Full tank in T9 costed around 700.000 iirc. When you had a good trade run (normal trade, there were no shortcuts in the first couple of months), you had to deduct that from the income.

Full tank in T7 was 50k. So you could compensate lousy cargo space with cheaper fuel. It had it's niche.

Yes, that's the issue with the Lakon Type 7 lacking a niche

Back when ships had higher maintenance and running costs, the Clipper cost an arm and a leg next to the Type 7 so you could see the benefits of each.

The Gutamaya ship was fast but costly to run and repair, and has short legs, the Lakons where cheap to run and repair, and had great fuel tanks

It added to the Shipyards different styles and aesthetics when their running costs matched that image

I have been using mine for the last 2 CGs, the Bridge looks brilliant in VR.

I have been using mine since the Lugh Conflict, running blockades into Khaka and have event taken her to the Core and back.

With Engineers tried Grade 4 Clean drives (saved the materials for the grade 5 for my Sidewinder), grade 5 FSD and a Grade 1 Low emissions PP (with a side effect of Positive MW gain) makes her quite a comfortable fly

Bought one on impulse for this CG.

Ok, it was a dog when I had to leave the station with it all E-rated but now it has a reasonable range and some better fittings, it's quite a nice ride.

I can see me taking this to the Engineers for a bit of extra love.

The shields and hull feel like they are made out of cardboard by the lowest bid contractor. I was fortunate that when I started playing and had 22 Million saved up, the Empire temporarily removed the rank requirement for its ships. I picked up a Clipper instead. Better in every way.

I *like* large ships that can't carry much

Its a large ship that can't carry much. That's mostly why people don't like it.

People keep saying bad things about my Orca. :p

Y'all seem to forget that the T-7 is 1/3 of the cost of a Python and no rank grind to buy that Clipper. So it has a great niche: accessibility.
I flew one for quite a while: used the Asp to find a route, then used the "Seven the Hard Way" (yep, that's it's name) to make some money.

Died so often in that model! Never noticed the difference between shields or no shields. :D Made enough for my Orca after a longish time of trading and CGs.

o7 T-7.

A T7 is my current mining ship. Don't have enough money for a Python. And if I did, it'd be replacing my FAS and certainly not being turned into a mining ship.

The niche is its a non gated cheaper hauler than can carry over 200t. A Python is 3x the price and more so with needed upgrades. Clipper is gated behind a 6 hour data grind and costs roughly 10mil more with a thruster upgrade you'll want.

Like it or not the T7 has a place, even if older players can't imagine it.

I personally love the space trucker vibe the T7 has. Like it's meant to haul 200t of food cartridges from one system to the next.

It's just dangerous for new players to buy this without a large insurance nest egg set aside so they can learn how to stay alive in it

I was on an asp, and looking at the type7 after a few runs (without log-stacking) from CEOS.
I didn't want to sell my modded Asp, so I really need 20m + upgrades.

I kept looking at the price of the python 3 times as much plus the the upgrades so you are bait.
Back to the cutter, looking at the requirements of being a baron.
and back to the type 7.

I did favour the cutter, and was prepared to embark on the ranking
but then the imperial warshp CG turned up, hoping to pick up som rep, but insteand I walked away with the money to buy a python.

Its shield value, speed, maneuverability, armor and cargo space combined are terrible compared to other ships around its price range, especially the Clipper that happens to be the fastest large ship, has more cargo space, better armor, better shield and better pitch rate.

This, and it's slow and made of wet noodles stuck together with cheap glue. Other than that, it's a fine ship ;)
In order to be able to flee alive from pretty much anything, you need to sacrifice quite a lot a capacity for shields and HRP's.

Seriously, when you see the size of that thing, you would expect it to carry more stuff. I hope FD will somehow expand the
holds of both the T7 and T9 because at the moment they feel totally outclassed by the generalist ships, which is a shame as
those should be the dedicated bulk trading ships*.

*I would say, add a C7 or C6 internal to the T7 and a C8 internal to the T9 (while reducing its hull mass from 1000t to 500t)

I bought one for a trading CG a few months back, because I don't have any Imperial rank, couldn't afford a Python (still can't) and wanted to carry more than my Asp Explorer could manage. I can't say it's anything other than waving goodbye to that 10% that's stopping me from selling it now I've discovered how dull bulk haulage is.

There's a certain charm to how amusingly terrible it handles, though - far more like a truck than the sleek things I'm used to.

I got one and lost it 3 times in one day. Too slow and not enough extra cargo space to compensate for the rebuys.
