What's with the T7 hate?

I think people comparing t7 to the python are missing the point that it is at least 3-4 times cheaper (more depending on fit). A similar argument can be made for the t9

I know credits seem plentiful now but when i went from asp to python the t7 was what i used to trade for creds.

Now the comparison to the clipper stands, but the iClip has always been OP for its hull price.

The Type-7 has exactly one redeeming feature: it's cheap and hauls a lot for the price.

But if you can afford a Python or have the rank and can afford a Clipper, those two are better in every respect.

I flew a Type-7 because I had to, not because I liked it. It steers like a cow, it overheats, it's slow, the hull is made from paper, it's no good for doing missions because it requires a large pad. But it's cheap and hauls a lot for the money.

Ah the coffin.. Had one for two or three days, died twice. My progress was: aspX - t7 - aspX - python. Maybe it was good back when there was only 2 ships on the galaxy to buy.

I think the only reason many people want to fly one is because it reminds them of this...

Bought one on impulse for this CG.

Ok, it was a dog when I had to leave the station with it all E-rated but now it has a reasonable range and some better fittings, it's quite a nice ride.

I can see me taking this to the Engineers for a bit of extra love.

its a solid mining ship, and has a very small window of viability as a trader, however its crap at defending itsself, inferior to the python and needs a large pad (unlike said python). it is fairly cheap tho.

I would like to see the less than "best" ships get some life back in them by having some high paying missions - undercover ones etc - where we are supplied a fixed loadout ship and forced to use it.

I still have one, but other than for a jaunt for a few hrs i will never actually NEED to fly her again, which is a shame imo.

Money is so easy to come by now you can go from an asp to affording a python in a matter of hrs, which is why i say v limited life span.

I'm banking on the Mines making running a viable option, it's worked so far.
There's also something about the T7 that helps it avoid interdictions - but maybe I'm just trying a bit harder because I'm in a T7.

Like the T6, it runs a bit hot, so I'm thinking Clean Drive Tuning 5 is the way to go.

I don't think this is a ship I'll be flying that often but so far I like the feel of it.

Got into my T7 and hated it, so used my ASP to grind for a Clipper, and enjoyed that as it was clean and shiny, and made a great phhzzzzz noise when you boosted. Blew myself up more times than pirates did trying to do multi jumps and not paying attention to the heat warnings. It does look like the "short bus" though.

1) Price is not a factor these day when you have CGs giving you 150m for being in the top 50% and 'regular gameplay' giving almost as much.
2) even with the economy being completely out of whack, if you try and trade in a Type 7 you'll end up with less money than you started with because of the constant interdictions. You're slow, can't fight, and fitting the ship to the point where you can actually survive long enough to high wake leaves you with barely more cargo than a cobra mk3. Might as well stick to an Asp or Type 6 really and put the extra effort for either a Python or Clipper.

i recently took my T9 out for the 1st time in 2.1 (it took me a long time to get my money back up after a pseudo new start).. and wow.. you are not wrong about the mines, they are great fun. i am a bit worried when the police show up tho, i can imagine me getting some big fines if i fire too many.

word on the street however is this cool little mechanic will be nerfed come 2.2 so enjoy whilst you can.

ps i wish i could scan ships behind me..... turning my T9 around to get a cheeky scan for some bounty ususally ends up costing me more than i get in bounty vouchers!. (but i just cant resist going for the scan) ;)

Depending on who you believe, the most effective way to run is not to immediately head away from the attacker, but to boost turn past them instead.
That would provide time to establish their Wanted status (although isn't that automatic if they've interdicted you?), but carrying a KWS is just asking for trouble ;)

It'd be a shame if they nerf mines too much, it's pretty much the only 'offense' that makes sense for traders.

The T7 is a horrible ship. If it were a medium ship that could fit what it currently fits, it might be fine. As a large ship, it can not only just land on large pads, it's also very slow, has little defensive weaponry, and serves absolutely no purpose other than to die.

Don't get me wrong ... the cockpit view is incredible. She has a nice feel. But while I enjoy 'feel' ships at times (Keelback), they still need to have at least a decent level of playability for the price. The T7 is just a Flying Coffin. Hence it's not so affectionate nickname.

In the olden days, T7 was excellent due to it's fuel economy (yep, fuel was expensive these days).

Full tank in T9 costed around 700.000 iirc. When you had a good trade run (normal trade, there were no shortcuts in the first couple of months), you had to deduct that from the income.

Full tank in T7 was 50k. So you could compensate lousy cargo space with cheaper fuel. It had it's niche.

That is quite interesting, and I think explains a lot of the current weirdness of the T7. I do hope that FDev buf *ahem*... I do hope that Lakon engineers look at updating the internals on this beauty. I suspect that although the hull is newer, they're using outdated fittings on the inside, and modernizing the internals could do wonders for this ship.
