What's Wrong With Elite.

you're joking right?
And yeah, Elite does play like a Beta. The core gameplay is paper thin, there are odd bugs everywhere, and we're always waiting for the day that they'll X feature to the game. Its basically a Beta.

I'm not at all joking. I wouldn't spend so much time playing the game if it felt like a beta. But keep your opinion.

I think you need to sit down as I have some bad news for you ..... one game unit on a steam sale does not = $60, so your claim of 120,000,000 USD income from ED is ever so "slightly" overstated.

Edit:
Actually - I'd like you to employ me, I think I'll get a good deal on my salary with your mathematics abilities :D

I was using it to make it easy for people. 1.2 million copies were sold at launch for $60 - $72,000,000 - they still have enough money. You should really try working some things out before posting.

Just getting to your ship is more exciting than the same, boring way ED does it. SC is way ahead of ED for game play

Is this a joke...or just clickbait looking for attention...you're GENUINELY telling me that having a third person view of a guy in "gilded plate armour" and walking him "into" your ship is "Exciting"

Few clarifications here;
* Money: I meant during early development and the KS phase Frontier didn't have funds; not anywhere close to CIG.
* Still in development: I was referring to the way CIG is still in development in Alpha, as opposed to ED which is in release and being worked on.^

^ Frontier chose a staggered roll-out, where as CIG is opting for a full roll-out. Frontier released a minimum viable product in order to get it out into the market, likely to start making cash on it (there are benefits to a staggered roll-out). CIG can afford not to though; they are doing everything Frontier is currently doing with Elite, only more fleshed out and in much greater detail but before they release the game to the market. I was saying that if Frontier had chosen CIG's route (if they had the man power and money), then ED, like SC, would still be in development (likely Alpha) given the size and complexity of the task ahead of both companies.

and just think, if they were both still in development, how much that competition would have driven them on. I think ED is a complete mess right now and was released way too early and would anyone mind waiting for it to have been done right?

Yes, they didn't have the funds like SC to begin with but they certainly have them now, espceially after the sale of Coaster Goon or whatever it's called. And they have Jurassic IP so whilst that excuse worked 3 years ago, it doesn't really work now.

Looking back I think had they both still been in development, we would have benefitted far more, perhaps :)

More exciting than the exact same animation - yes, of course it is. I actually have the freedom to walk around. I can board my ship. I can have scenes like in Star Wars where they're running back to the falcon and blasting out of there. Emergent gameplay can come from the fact I can dock and be vulnerable.

In ED, you get docked in big safe bundle of cotton wool and it's the exact same experience, all the time, every time.

I still love the game (even if I am taking a break from it) but I think some things could be better.

I'm pretty sure most Elite players would agree with you there - I've had more time out of this game than any other (except the OpFlashpoint/ArmA iterations). Exploring's my catnip, and I know it could be improved - there are still too many aspects of it that are opaque or just not well fleshed out. However, I still keep coming back to it - there's an elegance to the mechanics that just makes everything work. Now I grant you, exploring's not for everyone ("boring, THE GRIND, watching a timer go down, nothing to see on planets, not enough reward" etc etc) and I'd personally like to see it much more developed, there are so many good ideas floating around these forums and I'm sure FD are thinking about more, but still, the whole thing hangs together so well even in its current state that I keep on heading out into the black, for no other better reason than "it's there" and I want to see it and discover it for myself.

I'm also a Star Citizen backer and frankly CIG are nowhere even close to releasing something as playable and internally consistent as Elite currently is.

Short of having him walk backwards...or doing a handstand I'm struggling to think exactly HOW you could factor in much variety for walking from a docking Gantry or Platform...to a corridor to the Cockpit...
Or am I missing something?

You need to use your imagination - I just gave you an entire scenario and you just ignored it. So are you now saying you can't imagine any further things you might get from walking to your ship?

For me, I want an actualy ship to fly that I enter like I would in reality. I walk to the cockpit. I have a cargo bay I can walk to. Of course, if CIG fail to make sue of all thise stuff they're idiots, like for example, the cargo bay should have a use other than just visual - different cargo requires different utilities like maybe cooling and that cooling can get damaged or if you fly too close to a star, your cooling needs ramping up or you lose the cargo - stuff like that needs to be in there otherwise it's pointless.

If it's just walking to a ship and literally nothing else then I would agree it's a waste of time but then you don't and you get views like this

i'll tell you what's wrong with elite: the game design team. which is a shame, elite being a game.

other than that, it has some damn cool aspects, and could be so much frikken better ...

but as others said: that's just how it is, play the game or don't, video celebrities are irrelevant.

+1

I totally agree and have said the same in other threads.

For some reason, the ED design team seem to be stuck in a particular mindset; or, perhaps the fundamental code of the game only allows for spreadsheet/cosmetic changes but for no real development other than 'bolt on' features liked the failed MC and possibly even the increasingly boring Thargoids.

Just an opinion of course.

Cargo Management WOULD be an interesting aspect to the game (Not Sure I'd prioritize it over improvements to Exploration/Mining/Flight/Comm etc) BUT I'm guessing the the 33rd Century It might be run from a Panel - I don't think you'll be going round checking the tie downs like you would on a truck today!!!

As for the view...NICE! But as someone that's not into Screenshots particularly there'll always be a trade-off between quality and FPS...particularly if you're playing at 1140P or even 4K resolution!!! Besides that image looks "Hand-Placed" anyway rather than an in-game creation...

Watch some youtube clips of people running around. You can walk to the edge of a station and look down onto a planet I believe - now if only they were going to ad VR which would be truly amazing as long as I had VR to see it lol.

I'm not convinced they will add that much fidelity to the game tbh and it'll turn out like a different version of ED but we'll see.

It seems really obvious to me that the code they're writing for the Jurrassic park game will be used in ED to give us space legs and procedurally-generated alien mega fauna.

Is that not obvious to everyone else??

Sorry, I'm not familiar with this: are both games running on the same engine?

Not at all tbh. It might be used but JP is a set piece. It just needs the art assets made doesn't it? And dinosaurs. ED requires PG to generate flora and fauna for a few billion planets - landing on planets with the same looking animal or plant life is going to get really boring, really fast ala NMS.

Hmm, I didn't realize SC had come so far. It's actually impressive. :)

But imagine the forum rage if a single A-B trade run took that long. Lol

"Nah credits per hour be nerfed!"
"Why do I have to walk so far!?"

Lol

I do admit, running in to a port to order cargo, and having it sat physically on your ship is much better for gameplay than just clicking 'buy' from the bridge.
Although, the next question, is how did it get there..?

"Cargo magically appears on my ship.. mah immersion! FD create a loading mechanism!"

"Loading mechanism is effecting my credits per hour! Get rid of loading mechanism!"

Lol

There is nothing wrong with Elite Dangerous. If i want to play a port of Elite 2 and 3,then play Eilte Dangerous. Thats it. The whole game mechanic is from the 80´s and 90´s. It´s not wrong but super meta for those which are not familiar with those old games.

I click "buy" from my desk for just about everything in the 21st Century!!!! :)
