What's wrong with weapons colors ?

IMG_9662.JPG

Anyone know what is wrong with my weapon color ? You can clearly see the difference between my turreted weapons (upper left and right) and my fighter weapons (bottom right). The fighter laser is way more brighter. The only thing I can think is cause mine are upgrade by the engineers. On this picture you can't see the multi cannons that are also brighter and they are not upgraded.. or could it be the size of the hardpoints ? I was chatting with a guy on the mobius fb page and he said that he's experiencing the same problem since multicrew patch, prior to the patch his laser colors was way brighter than now

I'm sure I've read others reporting on the forums colour differences and them looking washed out, and this screenshot confirms that. I've no idea if it is intended or a bug though. Might be worth raising a ticket with Frontier...

That's what I wanted to hear, other players experiencing this. So this is due to 1) bug 2) hardpoints size 3) engineers upgrades. I'll try to submit a post on the bug forum section

OP, in Beta 2.3 I fought many duels in a FdL with 5 x pulse lasers, using a variety of weapon colours. The specials I used were 3 x phasing, 1 x emissive, 1 x scramble spectrum.

The specials appear to interact with the colours so as to provide not just (sometimes) a different 'shape' to the laser but also a different colour, e.g. a lighter/whiter shade.

The vid in the spoiler wrap should illustrate. (For those who read my recent guide to gimballed duelling, it's the same vid from the start of the thread, so don't bother clicking unless you want to thrill to "The KLF" again...)

I think it depends on the type of weapon, as well as subsequent mods, doesn't it?

The SLF is using a plain laser beam, but you probably have a different type fitted to your ship. Granted, the color (if it's supposed to be green) should be stronger, but if you have modded your weapon (as you say you have), it is quite possible that the mod has changed it.

May I suggest you swap one modded weapon with a plain equivalent and see if you find a difference?

Personally, I use blue weapons and am not having a problem, but then I haven't engineered them. I use green for the SLF so that I can be sure the pilot is earning her keep. :)

I used the green just because the difference was bigger and easier to show you from the picture. And yes currently I have 1 huge multicannon (not upgraded) 2 large mc (not upgraded) 2 medium beam (long range) 2 pulse (rapid fire)

As suggested maybe it depends on weapons type. I know that 'specials' affect the intensity of the colour.
In addition I recal someone mentioning how bloom settings affect self illumination entities such as the new 'pulse' paintjobs. Are thermal weapons the same? Look at your bloom settings and compare.

Flimley

i already read somewhere that special upgrades effects appears to change weapon colors but my my weapons are yes upgraded but without having special effects

Ship weapons, the "intensity" scales with the weapon size, small, medium, large, huge.

Huge has a huge bloom(?) effect.

I think the issue is just that fighter weapons get a special visual buff which makes them look like a ship-based huge weapon.

Can you confirm that ? If so i'm a little disappointed.. i was very excited to try my new weapon colors but i'm not going to change my upgraded harpoints. On my cutter i have lasers on the medium size hardpoints but for me they look so thin even to be medium size

Well here are my class 1,2,3s :

Also I'd say on the big ships, you are pretty far away from the lasers, so yeah they look quite thin.

I'd also add, I don't know if you've seen the size of class 4 weapons compared to class 3s, if you look in VR they are something like ten times the size.

Might be wrong but the ship weapons seem in line, it's just the fighter seems like it's had a bit of special treatment.

In OP's photo, the beams are still noticeably green, at least.

I believe the white beam at the top is diverging and is from the target ship. Am I right ? Something just hit you, as shown in the HUD on the right.

yes my beams are upper right and left while fighter is bottom right. I tried almost every color and green is one with the biggest difference. Blue is quite good, it's thin but still noticeable

Thank you for the pictures, the difference is really big and this confirm that this change with hardpoints size. I would like that Fdev would change this, at least if you have purchased and equipped weapon colors. I understand that they change depending hardpoint size and i'm good with that but please no if you have equipped weapon colors. I paid for super duper colored laser beams and this is not what i expected..

Opens the question - what is the target ship firing that makes it white ? White isn't a purchasable color, so a very engineered laser .... special effect ?

They vary based on the Weapon Effects , Size of the Weapon.

Also the Damage Stat modifies the Intensity/Thickness - i blelieve thats why teh SLF have so Strong Colors. Their pretty hefty Beams, basically like Thermal Conduit low vs High heat.

@Lightspeed
its not white its still reddish. That Effect can look like that when Thermal Conduit ( +High Heat on a c2 Turret ). Then again in this case its probably just closer at the Cockpit.

Cheers!

Like Truesilver said, special effects seems to affect color brightness. Does npc have engineered weapons with special effects ? I think yes. After 2.0 (if i'm right) npc got a big buff

No, actually NPC's had specials very briefly after 2.1 but they were soon removed and have never come back.

Whether NPC's can have engineered guns (without specials) is less clear.

I think they missed the boat in this. The colors should be (In My opinion) Individually assigned. For instance Laser could be red Mulicannons are blue and Rail guns are violet.
