This is pretty much why it appeals to me, along with it's non super-power status.

I think the Alliance is a super-power too. Didn't Mr Brookes talk about "a new player in space" that the Fed and Emp had to accept into the, what? G3 of space?
Somehow I see the Alliance as a little closer to the Federation, and I can't imagine all out war between those two would really happen. Didn't play FFE though so I might be wrong about the history.

About not using caps, a cheap trick by imperial lackeys to diminish and annoy. Nothing at all to be upset about and by all means don't lower yourselves to mirror the imperial empire. The empire I mean.

Possibly this is another case of a double negative and everyone becomes an Independent.
