What’s your favorite laser mining ship ?

Now that we have a mining CG may be good time to discuss mining ships.
I use different ships for different mining types, for laser mining I found the Corvette to work best for me.
Tried the Cutter but found the maneuverable to slow me down that’s when I switched to the Corvette.
I get 256 tons of storage 12 to 15 limpets depending on controller 2 prospectors, 2 huge laser and a few smaller ones.
Lots of easy movability, I can deplete most asteroids in 15 seconds get in nice and close and position for best limpet movement.
Getting 256 tons is just about the perfect time for each session as I am ready for a break.

What’s your favorite mining build, now we have do many to pick from.
I never thought I would be using a Corvette for mining.

i use a type 9 for laser mining. i have 5 of the special mining lasers:
A pre-Engineered Class 1 Mining Laser with Long Range, reduced Distributor Draw, and Incendiary Rounds Experimental Effect named "Modified Mining Laser" can be purchased from the Human Technology Brokers at Zetian's Recall in LTT 198. Note that LTT 198 is permit locked by Torval Mining Ltd.
(
note you have to do quests for Torval Mining Ltd in an adjacent system to unlock LTT 198)
they work really well have double the range and half the draw of normal mining lasers.
i use 2 - 5A collector limpet controllers and also 2 - 3B collector limpet controllers (5A and 3B have the same limpet ranges)
and a 3A prospector limpet controller
2 class 8 cargo racks and a 6A shield
power plant and distro are 6A
it has power forever. 4 pips in weapons i can jack asteroids quickly. never overheats. never run out of juice.

this setup works really well for me for laser mining. i take it out in the black with me on my carrier.

I insist that my mining ships host a full complement of mining tools. My favorite miner is the Beluga. I can't remember my exact build, but this is close. 5 medium hardpoints means grade 2 mining implements including room for twin grade 2 mining lasers (enough to keep all the limpet controllers I want to equip busy). 192 tons of cargo is plenty since I always mine from my carrier (which also means I could ditch the guardian FSD booster for more cargo space, I guess).

I've been toying with the idea of building a Mandalay miner for running to my favorite out-of-bubble mining location for shorter sessions without moving the carrier, but haven't built it yet.

For mining at RES's, my Corvette works pretty well:
(enable the MC's only when engaging pirates, otherwise disable and try to stay cold)

Oh, and your trusty SLF pilot that you may deploy to fight boredom among these cold rocks.

Current laser miner is my Anaconda.
Two class 2 and two class 1 mining lasers.
Two class 5 and two class 3 collectors and one class 1 prospector.

I think I have the same, except 1 controller is "multi", it throws more limpets. I don't recall which one though.

T10, simply because it looks like it should be floating around, asteroid-mining.

Got sick of losing Prospectors so I bought a Corvette, went mining in it and it was functionally better than the T10 in almost every possible way.
Only problem was, I didn't like the idea of using a Corvette for mining, and I simply missed the T10.

So, I'm back to the T10 again now.

In the T10's defence, it does have a lot going for it as a mining ship.
You can, basically, fit proper weapons in all the C3 slots and mining lasers in the smaller slots and end-up with a ship that can mine well and defend itself adequately.
The Lakon cockpit IS simply better than every other ship for mining.
The placement of the smaller hardpoints means you get reasonable convergence when mining odd-shaped 'roids.
While you can fit slightly more stuff in a Cutter, the T10's not much worse.

FWIW, I reckon THE best ship to use as a cheap, do-it-all, miner is the venerable AspX.

It has enough hardpoints so you can fit all the mining toys and a couple of small weapons for seeing-off small pirate ships.
It has a C6 slot, so you can bung in a 64t cargo rack to make mining trips worthwhile.
It's agile enough to move around 'roids, laying seizmic charges when DC mining and then get in amongst the chunks and it can do a bit of laser mining too.
It costs less than half of any alternative ship, which means it's also cheap to transfer around to anywhere you find a likely mining site.

Type-10 for me too. If you slow down a bit to slightly below prospector speed they won't crash into the cargo scoop. I do it by feel now but you can bind a button to 30% throttle (or whatever) and hit it before launching the limpet. o7

I love my miner conda.
Fully engineered for speed (lightweight) and running cool (less than 10%).
I deep core mine mostly.
I'm very wealthy, made my fortune in borann.
Since the great mining nerf I only go mining if its nessesary. Namely powerplay.

Or out in the black.

The good old days of making lots of credits core mining LTDs.

T10 for me
it may not be objectively the best, (but with a SLF bay , lots of room, a bit more manoeuvrability than the T9 and plenty of weapon slots for laser mining , an abrasion blaster and a little self defence it may be) but as already stated it just looks the part.
The asp x is also a good choice (but that is a bit like the python and anaconda in so far as it's a bit of a swiss army knife of a ship) but I used that for other things so never mined with mine (I try to have as many ships with as many specialised roles rather than 1 ship does all)

the T7 is a good shout if you want a cheaper ship which also looks the part but it's not likely to defend itself very well

I don't mine very often, but i have set up a Python Mk1 for mining for the community goal.
It can do laser and core mining, and it's nimble enough to manoeuvre through a cracked open asteroid.
It may not be the optimal choice, but it's an easy setup for everyone.
Mine is engineered, but that's not mandatory.

Hi :)

I never thought I would be using a Corvette for mining.

I mainly use a Corvette for mining. It has no 'name' just the subsidiary mining company attached to my fantasy 'Corporation'. (In the picture of my avatar).
Two class 1 engineered long range lasers (incendiary rounds)
Two class 2 D mining lasers
One Seismic
One Displacement
One Abrasion Blaster
Some Prospector / Collector limpet controllers (can't remember which variety as the servers are down at the moment so I can't check, but I think I can deploy about 6 collectors at one time from memory).*
The ship has no defensive weapons other than point defence, but is very heavily shielded.
I frequently crash into asteroids that I've sent my prospectors too , but this has very little effect on the shields as all my modules are heavily engineered!
When core mining I don't have to be far away either when the asteroid explodes, due to the robust nature of the ship. (Tank).

I do most of my mining usually at pre-chosen systems outside of the bubble (good mining spots).
This is the reason why It's not armed in the conventional sense, there's no irritating pirates to consider cramping my style out there. I just want to get on with the main job of mining! :D

*On the subject of collector limpets 🧐
I've mentioned this somewhere on the Forum before...but anyway...Has anyone noticed when collectors are deployed and in an idle state outside of the ship (no metals or minerals present to pick up), they have a different configuration of movement about the underside of the ship compared to how that movement was some months ago?
They now have a very definite circular motion underneath the ship compared to how that motion and placement was originally. Which I find is a lot better generally for visual clarity (On the Hud) of how many limpets are operating at one time....it was a good alteration imo. (y)
I tried to find out when this limpet motion and feature was changed in the various previous update notes, but couldn't find any reference.
Anyhow, just thought to mention it.😊

Jack :)
