What's your favourite exhibit animal from the DLCs?

We talk a lot about our favourite DLC and our favourite update, but how about those quickly forgotten exhibit animals? How do you rank the animals we have received so far?

My ranking goes as follows:

1) Diamondback terrapin: I love these little guys. What's a zoo without a turtle? They also added a new design for the exhibit box, which is a plus.

2) Eastern blue tongued lizard: although I would have chosen other Australian lizard, I like these guys and I use them very often. I think the reptiles are the best exhibits because they don't die so fast as the insects and their breeding is more manageable.

3) Red eyed tree frog: frogs are always welcome!

4) Giant Malaysian leaf insect: they look pretty cool, but they are annoying to manage and the current exhibit box is too big for them. I would have preferred other kind of animal here.

5) Sacred scarab beetle: the animation is cool, and being the first exhibit animal in the game which is also found in Europe is a plus, but it is the least exciting for me. They are difficult to manage, we already have two other beetles, the box is too big... I think I've never paid attention to beetles in any zoo 🙈.

What's your ranking?

I’d probably go for the same order as you, except I might downgrade the bluetounge on the basis that i want it in a temperate box not a desert one.

I actually quite like the scarab beetle, because of its nice integration into elephant, rhino and giraffehouses.
They just feel thematicly fitting and the only other african exhibit that somewhat fits is the adder, as the rest are all tropical themed.
But i totally understand the reasons for disliking them, eventhough i myself am quite fond of beetles and hope that atleast the stag beetle will be included in the future

I agre. I actually quite like all the DLC exhibit animals so far - the two inverts are the ones that stand out for having exhibits that are too large (though that applies to a lot most of the other exhibit animals to some extent)

Let me just start out by saying that not one of these animals is bad by any means. You can really tell that Frontier put the work in and made these animals the most realistic they can be, having to deal with the exhibit box structure. Anyway, here's my list...

5. Sacred Scarab Beetle - These guys are really cool, and their animations are really cool as well. It's just the fact that it's a beetle for me, I don't dislike the beetles and spiders, just not high on my list. However, this is my favorite of the beetles, spiders, insects, etc.

4. Red-Eyed Tree Frog - The detailing work on these guys is insane for an exhibit animal. They look really cool in their tanks and are an iconic South American animal.

3. Malaysian Giant Leaf Insect - These guys caught me by surprise, from their announcement to the release of the SEA pack. The detailing is insane and it's kinda fun to spot them in their enclosure, camouflaged.

2. Eastern Blue-Tounged Lizard - Lizards are just really cool, no real explanation needed. Their model is gorgeous and their blue tounge sticking out here and there is nice as well.

1. Diamondback Terrapin - First, the model is amazing. Second, the tank is amazing. Third, the animations are amazing. That's the trifecta that makes these guys the best exhibit animal, not just out of all of the DLCs, but in all of Planet Zoo!

I'm not gonna say I dislike them, because there isn't any animals in-game I can't stand (although the HBB is right on the line, but still)...

  • Sacred scarab - my least favorite of all the DLC exhibit species, but they have their own desert set-up that the other desert species don't have. Bonus points to Frontier for adding a pile of dung in the design
  • Eastern blue-tongued lizard - lizards are always cool, but I don't use these as much. Part of it may be that I prefer tropical/swampy exhibits over dry ones, but I prefer others
  • Giant Malaysian leaf insect - a beautiful animal, I love these, and if it were easier to control the breeding, then they'd be higher
  • Diamondback terrapin - first of all, the only exhibit turtle. Second, a unique enclosure design that I hope to see again. The loop animations are a bonus
  • American bullfrog - I love bullfrogs. Their loud sounds, their size. The new enclosure is only the 2nd swamp design, so that's great
  • Red eyed tree frog - my favorite, for multiple reasons: iconic to tropical rainforests of Central and South America, a popular icon for amphibians, amazing coloration. I love the red, the green, the blue, and I always add these into my reptile houses. I mean, I'm trying to find them in real-life to keep for myself (but they're expensive😔😂)

I can't wait to see what comes next

The terrapin definitely, but I also love the scarab for its animations. Shame the iinvertebrates are so annoying because of the rapid breeding/death. I do love using them on sandbox

1. Diamondback terrapin -- easy winner due thanks to its appearance and behavior. Hopefully opens the door to further aquatic/semiaquatic exhibit animals.
2. Red-eyed tree frog -- just a solid animal with a dazzling appearance.
3. Blue-tongued skink -- in real life I'd put them above the frog, but Planet Zoo overstates how dry they like it when they're really more of a woodland animal.
4. Sacred scarab beetle -- nothing to write home about, but I like the special desert exhibit and they don't quite give me headaches like the...
5. Malayan leaf insect -- I should love them, but the large size of the exhibit tank makes them difficult to find, and they breed and die too rapidly.

To be honest, we need a ton more exhibit animals too, even more so if the game's initiative is highlighting conservation because a largest fraction of endangered species displayed in zoos are often herptiles or arthropods.
