Whats your previous Elite experience? Amiga, PC, Xbox?

I'm a 64 player if memory serves me right all I can remember is long hours playing and crashing into anything and everything It was by far the best game on the planet . 1984 was a great time loved every second off my elite life

And in my opinion it still the best game around for longevity. Started on a 64 and ended up in VR who would have known

I was active duty during the Frontier days (no time for games), so tell me about this Frontier / Elite 2. To start with, are they two different games or the same game? Is there an equivalent to OOLite for this / these?

Silly rabbit, I know how to use WP. This thread is all about people's experiences. I'm looking for a more personalized answer to my question.

Frontier: Elite 2 is the sequel to the original Elite, and prior to Elite Dangerous, considered by most to be the best in the series

There are shareware versions out there, that run in DOS emulators and I think there's now a version that runs in Windows 7/8/10

Not sure about an OOlite version

I got to play Elite on the BBC B, but that was it until I got ED when it was officially launched two years ago. Been playing ever since and am very much looking forward to playing my third commander on the PS4

Elite - Spectrum. I was a bit too young to grasp the finer elements ( I died a lot) but enjoyed it none the less.
Frontier : First Encounters - pc. Played the hell out of it but found it to be extremely buggy.
Frontier - pc. Played this after First Encounters, borrowed from a mate.
Elite : dangerous - pc. less than 10hrs in total due to pc dying a death just after release.

So the PS4 release will be the first time I feel I'll be able to give the full experience a chance, so to speak.

Mine was originally on a BBC b computer, then old 386 pc and and Amiga 500+
oh yeah the + was important

Since Aug 16 I'm on pc again. my pc is 9 years old and still throwing it around in ultra nearly always 60fps at hd

I'm not sure I will get it on ps4, I may get Xbox one x..

Or new ryzen 9 and Rx vega to go 4k +

It would be nice if you login to your commander from either platform

Played the original Elite many moons ago on a C64. I actually played 'co-op' with a buddy of mine. We would alternate playtime and backseat fly when we were not on the controls. We used a joystick that I remember being similar to an old Atari 2600 joystick, but those memories are foggy.

I have had Elite Dangerous on PC for a few years now. Played with a Thrustmaster 16000-M joystick (no throttle).

Moving to the PS4 as I prefer the couch gaming.

BTW, are you going to visit Lave and try to get a Sol permit? I'll probably never get one since I'm going to the Alliance.

definitely go to lave for old times sake, as for sol permit it is a possibility, but i would prefer to keep my independent status

You probably did. I used the Atari 2600 joysticks with my C-64 for years. In fact that was the only joystick I used for it. Totally forget how compatible they were back then...

I played the Amiga version of Elite till my disk got corrupted.
Then I played Elite First Encounters.
It sometimes crashed but was awesome. Had ranked to my two favourite ships: Lion Transporter and Puma or was it Panther Clipper.
Elite had me hooked and I always hoped for something similar to replace the game, but nothing was remotely close to using real star names of milky way galaxy. That was until ED came along...I'm playing in Heaven!

I played Elite on the C64 in 1985/86.
Never made it to Elite rank because my save file got corrupted and it's always disappointed me.
A 30+ year old loose end you might say.

It was my favourite game back then.
I found my old copy of the game during a recent cleanup.
The memories came flooding back and I found myself reading the included Novella "The Dark Wheel".
I think it's still a great little read that sets the scene for our first forays into the void.
I would recommend anyone reading it, but especially new players to the Elite franchise.

Obviously looking forward to new adventures on the PS4. Maybe I can tie up that loose end.
Bring on the 27th.....

My first ED experience was buying for the Xbox one about 2months ago. Really liked it so much I then bought the basic version for my laptop at work about 3weeks ago and bought a second hand PS4 slim because I have to try out the hotas since Xbox one doesn't have hotas. I actually bought my thrust master tflight 4 before I bought the PS4. Now that's commitment...lol. I only wish I had bought a PS4 pro.
