When are planets you find added to the codex?

As the title says:

1) After you FSS them.
2) After you probe them.
3) After you sell the data.

Which is it supposed to be, and has anyone experienced any bugs with it?

It's supposed to be when you sell the data.

The thing is, it adds it automatically immediately when using the FSS for me. No selling of data needed. Anyone else the same? Anyone knows if this is supposed to happen? I like it, but it seems to fly in the face of forum wisdom?

Am out deep space mining near Barnards Loop. Main two things I have noticed.

- System maps are complete for any system that has been previously visited by a cmdr (pretty much all the systems I visited on the trip out here (I guess this is due to the new shared data mechanic)

- Anything I find new (or rumoured) Is immediately added to the Codex (Have Confirmed two Lagrange clouds out here) I guess my name doesn't get put next to the confirmed until I dock somewhere and sell this data?

I dont think names get added to confirmed, only the first reported gets named it seems.

Ok thanks, will be docking shortly. I'll find out 100%. Am really liking the fact that the system maps are now fully populated. The exploration process feels so much better imo.

Yer im having great fun just in my home systems. Finding all sorts of gelogical sites and STUFF !! :)

OP, while it doesn't answer your question exactly this post clarifies a lot about the Pokedex (you all know what I mean) as there seems to be a lot of confusion about discoveries and whether it's working as intended.

Regarding your question; probing definitely isn't required to add a planet to the Codex. I've discovered all planet types in the starting Sector (not in game and still learning the names sorry) but I know for sure that I've only probed ELW/WW/AW's.

My assumption is that getting a planet type confirmed is at the point of FSS'ing it, but not willing to state that as an absolute just yet. Sadly I can't test this either w/o travelling to a new Sector but I'm sure there's someone who can test this easily enough and confirm

Deep space mining? That's an old dream of mine, but just out of curiosity - does it make any sense? Anything special out there you couldn't get right in your neighborhood? Also the hauling aspect, isn't it killing any potential advantage of 'deep space mining'? Of course it's not all about profit but miners are usually not known as charity event so let us talk about profit. I do deep core mining in a small ship (CMkIV) and sell at my home station, 20Ls away from one of my best hotspots. Surprisingly it's low temperature diamonds here as they pay more than 3 times the galactic average (~290Kcr) and thus even top the second best available ore in my system which is Alexandrite. That's something to keep in mind for 'local' miners: the local price! Though quite obvious I guess... :)

Just combining a bit of exploration with mining. There is an Asteroid base out here http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/File:Orion-Nebula-Tourist-Centre.png

Currently doing Ice mining for LTD's in the surrounding systems. Much better views compared to the Bubble, am only using seismic and abrasion. Huge profits combined with the scan data.

These mining Hubs are found in plenty of Nebulae, home to Lagrange clouds and other phenomena.

Wait, can I trust my eyes? "only using seismic and abrasion" you say and the surface deposits from the first image are all from abrasion, no deep core demolition involved?

Also displacement missiles. Seismic charges to crack the asteroid, the other to strip the LTD's. I don't bother with the standard laser.

It's after you scan them (Which I believe can be FSS, passive, or old style surface scan, though I haven't tested this.). They'll only add to the Codex though if they're your first discovery of that type, or if it's a new record for that type of body for you (records being hottest, coldest, biggest, smallest, etc.). - this is assuming that the Records part is working properly now.

Done some testing on confirming Codex entries so here we go

Stars - After doing initial discovery scan
Planets - After resolving them in FSS
Lagrange clouds - Travel towards centre after dropping in
Pretty much everything else - After using composite scanner
Thargoid ships - Either composite/xeno scanner (had both bound to same fire group so not sure which one updated Codex)

Entries update immediately, and when you confirm you also earn some credit vouchers (Transactions/Claims) that you can cash in at a station
