When is VOID OPAL nerf coming?

Do we really expect people will spend their free RL time sitting in a Large ship with 250 Painite, waiting for hours/days for price to change, unable to reload that goods and use another ship in the meantime?
They sit for hours/days mining painite, so sure, why not?

Alternately, go dump it somewhere else for less. Like I said before, people were totally satisfied wot just 700k for Voipals when this was first introduced, before the first pirate attack finished the combination. People are just getting their knickers in a knot because it's NOT THE ABSOLUTE 100% MAXIMUM PRICE I COULD GET FOR THIS. Welcome to literally every other activity in this game.

Or alternately, go jump around a few different, perhaps quieter locations looking for better prices.

Or alternately, don't look for the hot prices using literally the same tool everyone uses, which will give the same results.

Or alternately, don't spend hours/days filling your entire hold. Dip in, grab a roid or two, then dip back out to sell before the market tanks.

Or alternately, identify when the next price surge is coming and be ready when it goes up. You literally have a whole day's advance notice before the final state (usually pirate attack) kicks in. Sure, there's a counter here that "oh, but you're expecting people to put their life aside at a moment's notice to spend a day mining". Let's be real... the sort of people we're talking about have no problem spending an entire day grinding out core minerals

Or alternately, mine a variety of minerals to hedge your bets against a single, flooded commodity.

Or alternately, base out of a larger population system where there's going to be more opportunity before demand dries up.

This isn't that hard...

Wish I could rep you more than once for that statement ! Well said Commander

@Jmanis Can't say you're wrong, because you are not.

But I still stand by the fact that we need a warehouse, say 1000 tons, be it for Water, Coffee, Opals or Biowaste to be able to even better enjoy the gameplay you just so nicely described.

I'd say a more dynamic market actually makes storage even more problematic. We know that we would fill the 1000T then demand 2000, 4000 etc etc, just waiting for that peak market price.

The ability to store cargo for a daily price proportional to the galactic average price of the cargo would certainly be an interesting feature.

For core gems you would have to be very certain of a coming price increase to not make massive losses on the storage costs compared with an immediate sale, whereas things like Water you could hang on to for a few days hoping for a price increase (but not be able to make very much profit on either).

The general economic balance would need to be turned up a bit hotter for it to be particularly interesting, though.

I don't think they've implemented it yet. That should still be normal prices.
I know, just sour as I spent a hour loading up at a double painite spot, figuring id get a good payout until I found the place to get said pay was over 200 ly away, didn't feel like doing 40 jumps to get there, pirates along the way trying to steal my stuff.

So you didn't plan before you left to go mining? Okay, might suggest you do that in the future, makes it far easier and means a lot less screwing around with a ship full of valuables.

I hate the profits from mining..... they are too high imo, however what you wrote there imo sounds like the best defense of high payouts there can be.

if there is going to be potential high reward for something there absolutely needs to be a real risk of losing it all.

40 jumps for 200ly? I do the trip in 5 jumps.
You should probably spend some time engineering and outfitting your ship instead of mining.

Wait, I just did some number crunching. Are you saying that it takes your 40 jumps to go 200LYs, do you have the route planner set to most economical route? You really need to get someone here to look at your build if your maximum laden jump range is around 5LYs, you won't get out of the system with that!

That's the problem with credit progression in Elite. People become millionaires before they learn how to play the game...

PS
That's a Dr Evil moment. I meant billionaires!

Keep in mind that in all practical respects you get 100% profit whenever you sell mined goods, chasing higher prices is just normal human greed. But if you think of it as a percentage of what you paid.

Mmmh... G5 FSD plus a Guardian FSD Booster, turn that into 10 or less jumps, even for a ponderous ship.

@Mooka: What if we already are rabid communists? The entire thing would be a huge waste of time on their part then.

All I'm saying is that the balance of payouts for different playstyles should be made more equal. Mining should come down some, and other things should come up.

I g5'd both my mining ships to add both jump range and protection after I played in the Beta.

I've got no issues with FDev making supply/demand make sense when it comes to minerals. I'll be honest, I thought that was all ready implemented.

I'll second the motion for storage though.

I might be missing what they mean by supply/demands. I know I've seen values on EDDB say something was 1.688m/t but when I get there it is 1.659m/t. The price may already fluctuate. That or EDDB was just delayed. Maybe I'm missing what it does now. I thought me selling hundreds of void opals dropped the price afterwords. I would assume like other minerals the amount needed to 0 them is in the 10's of thousands though. What exactly are they changing here. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

Is this just an extra limit so there is not always a max price. I assume it needs to be a certain state or something then. Or does it already do this? I never pay attention to the state. Is it changing so it has to be owned by certain groups so it's mining oriented after this?

I use Inara. On that site, the 'demand' for a 'product' is quite clearly listed.

What the Beta showed is that as the demand was met, the price went down. What is currently happening in production is that demnd does not seem to be influencing prices the way it should.

When you looked at where the system\faction states 'should' have the highest demand in Beta, some of those were in areas that were in pirate infested areas.

If that ends up in production, then that would mean more loss of product getting to market. That would be a good thing from my perspective.

The question though is that if the demand is made to be much lower, then it would be an over all nerf to mining.

I'm hoping that it's the former and not the latter, which is why I g5'd my miners.
