When will Frontier announce the next DLC?

Tell you what, if it's *not* an announcement on atmospheres and/or legs then all the doom threads would finally be right.

I think pretty close yeah. Think this DLC is as good as make or break for ED keeping the ball rolling and potentially adding further significant additions after it.

It doesn't have to be perfect or all-encompassing, but it has to be a step along that old roadmap, reinvigorate big sweeps of the community, and potentially attract new players. (And in purely pragmatic terms, needs to give ED's cash earnings a boost and keep it looking sweet on paper, in a way that cosmetics & Horizons uptake can't do. It needs to capitalise on the boost they got by launching on PS4 and getting earnings across 3 platforms etc). Failing that it's probably heat death time, sure. No pressure ;)

It's been a while since we had major paid DLC. When do you think Frontier will announce it? Maybe around March at the latest.

They will announce a new dlc, when they think it's necessary to avoid that the hype-train is rushing through the galaxy again, just to deliver an even more salty community.
For me, more important is an announcement, if and when they release a major patch for the mess they delivered with the latest release.

I don't believe there will be any DLC until the end of the year, if at all.

Beyond was the last big push for ED and ED is no longer FDev's most important objective with new IPs coming.

If sales fall, that may spur something but otherwise, I think what we have now is probably about all we're going to get.

Just my opinion of course but I see no reason to think otherwise.

You think they won't release the paid DLC they've already announced?

Some might say that that's taking scepticism too far ;)

FWIW ED seems to maintain greater post-launch staffing than FDev's other franchises. I think you are being unnecessarily dour ;)

As they step away from the season model, all future expansions will be DLC, with probably portions of content added to the base game.

Not wanting to be the doom monger, but genuinely does anyone else have that horrible uneasy feeling that... this is it in terms of how far FDev can push the game within its current confines?
No, I don't share this feeling. E : D can evolve further in the future. Why do you've got this feeling? FD employ people with big creative minds and technological boundaries haven't been reached. And FD knows what the community is wishing for, there is really no need to worry.

I see nothing bad with it... It's a reminder to FDEV that the community is waiting info anyway..
I do not think FD needs to be reminded. They monitor this place and know about feature requests, dlc wishes and so on and they know how to order those on priority and possibilities. They are a grown up development company. If they reach a point where they can announce a new DLC or new feature they will do so. They are not under obligation to tell us every week what they are doing (or not).

Keep in mind this post from late last year and certainly this part of the message:
We do have one exciting piece of news to share that to date, we have not shared with our community. A while ago, our development went from pre-production into full production on our next major milestone of Elite development.

What that means in the simplest terms is that the team are actively working on the next major landmark which takes us into our next era for Elite. We aren’t going to be ready to talk about or announce any details for quite a while yet, it is early in the development and there is still a long way to go, but I can say that this is something that will be scheduled to release a considerable time after the final update in the Beyond series. We will have more details on exactly what this means and how the era will roll out after the release of Beyond – Chapter Four, but this does mark some exciting next steps and a continued commitment to the long term vision for the game and our community.
Note "the team are actively working", "We aren’t going to be ready to talk about or announce any details for quite a while", "release a considerable time after the final update in the Beyond series". E.g. no reminder needed.
