When you return to inhabitated space...Solo or Open?

After my friend told me he got back and got pulled over by a pirate and got killed, DEFINITELY private/solo. The pirate saw he didn't have cargo, and my friend told him he had just got back from exploring and had loads of data, and the pirate killed him anyway. That's the kind of mindset I really don't approve of (i have no problems with piracy), and I'm telling you all now, if you try and kill me when I've got 3000 scans of data to hand in, you are going to be on YouTube as the biggest a-hole in the game

I know some explorers(at least 2) who come to edge of the bubble then wing up with 1 or 2 others to go in. So, is that considered true Open play in terms of having the guts to bring your data back in Open ?
I agree with all of you no matter what method you choose :)

Like Cmdr DRKAII , I too will not risk over 100 hours of gameplay,in an exploration fitted Asp, just to satisfy some idiot's need to gank me, even though these so called "Pirates" always bleat on about how noble they are.

I come back in SOLO(last few 100 LYs), and I make no apologies for that.

p.s. When I am in the bubble and not exploring, Pirates have tried, and failed, when they realise I have a Python with teeth, and they need to work for their kill.

I think when I'm ready to come back Im going to come on here and try and arrange an escort, I have no shields, no weapons and Im not very fast.

Open. Just returned yesterday. Plotted one of the systems on the edge of civilized space. It was uneventful, as expected...

you won't see another player unless you head for a hot spot
^^This. If you want to sell your data in Lave (for some insane reason) you gonna have a bad time.

Open, it keeps me focussed. I will head to the nearest system to arm up, then to the nearest Empire system to sell my data.
