Hiroyuki Vision, Omagatae. I first found this place looking for a high tech system near Elvira Martuuk where I could transfer and outfit my very small fleet before taking them to get FSD mods. I liked the feel of the place so I decided to make it my home station. I worked my way up to a Python here, which is the first ship I've put some serious time into engineering. There's a nearby system with RES sites so I like to go and empty my overcharged multicannons into unsuspecting pirates over there. For money and Federal rank I run passengers out of Hiroyuki in my 30LY Dolphin.
I also have a Diamondback Explorer that can now jump 50LY while fully armed, which I'm quite pleased with. I'm thinking of taking it on my first long trip into the black sometime soon, and maybe come home to my Python for when 2.4 comes out.

Welcome to the confusion OP. I hope your new addiction is as enjoyable as mine has been.
My primary Cmdr is currently parked at the Zurara ghost ship 12 Kylies from the bubble. How did I get there? Using an exploration Clipper via Jellyfish Nebula, Crab Nebula, Heart and Soul Nebulae and the Formidine Rift beacons and bases.
My alternate Cmdr is currently in the Pleiades with an Unknown Artefact, Unknown Probe and Unknown Link trying to work out what the hell the Thargoid stuff is about.

I just got done with the latest Community Goal, and have returned to my 'home' system of Lakota. I made one of the moons there my home. It's close enough to Sol to be able to do good Rank advancement for the Federation or get those lucrative passenger missions, and for me had enough variety of mission givers to let me do a number of things. Not a large system by any means, but this also means it isn't too busy with traffic. (Which is nice, as I'll be able to more easily know if something is amiss by the amount of traffic) Neighboring systems have all kinds of economies from refinery to agricultural to High Tech, so getting most of what I need is only one or two jumps away depending on the ship. And I'm about 100 lys away from most of the engineers I prefer to visit, so flying to them takes little time. (And transfer costs are low)
Which reminds me, I'll need to head back to the CG station and get my rewards. :/

I'm about 4,000LY out of the bubble at the moment, coming back from a short trip to the heart and soul nebula. I mostly jonked all the way out there because there were so few untagged shiny planets and sold the exploration data at an asteroid base in the nebula. The few million Cr. from that saw me finally make Elite exploration.
The Elite exploration rank got me a permit to one of the Engineers and the Founders World. I'll go see her in a bit and see if she can't improve my Diamondback Explorer for my upcoming circumnavigation attempt.
I spent my first few weeks in game running all around the bubble, mostly doing missions for a Federaton aligned faction in Kachian. Then I discovered community goals. You can make a lot of credits pretty quickly, have a fair amount of fun and get friendly with a few CMDRs, just beware the pirates and griefers in Open (so I'm told). Lot of people play CGs in the Mobius private group.

Down the bottom of the bubble, tend to stick to Imperial space, but have been all over the place, out the edge of one of the arms and back in again then out to colonia and back in again, sort of ended up where I' am now due to looking for a system to work the BSG.
Im not playing at the moment but think it's time again to fire up the python and get back into ED, so I might stay where I'am or move again, one thing I love about the game is finding new places to call home.

I started off by snagging my free Viper Mk IV at Miller Depot, in Barnard's Star. After killing some folks with it for a while, I decided to make that move to Imperial space I've been promising myself since... well, a long time. Realised very quickly that I should probably have done it with my Cobra Mk III, which had a much better jump range, meaning less tedious jumps. Eventually made it to Tsim Binba, quite a few jumps later, and have been there ever since. Transferred my Cobra here, then bought a Type-6 and tricked it out for long distance hauling, and have been grinding credits like mad.
I'm not sure where I'll go next, and it will probably be another spur of the moment decision.

It depends, on the one hand I'm a couple of jumps out from the active alien base looking to get a replacement SRV after the alien artifacts destroyed it's life support, or alternatively I'm shuttling between Lave Station and the engineer base in Leesti because he won't speak to me until I give him 50 units of Lavian Brandy.

I registered back a while ago, and then forgot about the forums. Put off buying the game until 6 days ago, and... surprise, I already have over 50 hours put in. Wow.
My E Commander is in LB 3303 right now (about 38ish LY from Sol) after a couple hundred LY of travel to deliver a rich tourist to Poindexter Horizons. It's my second long-run passenger haul. I'm already in a fairly beefy Cobra Mk III, for sentimental reasons. I'm contemplating flying out to the Pleiades to see what all the Thargoid fuss is about, but I need a few more improvements on my ship first.
My former Commander was in F:EII, and had a Panther Clipper that was seriously tricked out with all the stuff. That thing flew all over the Federation and the Empire, and I eventually got bored and stopped. He was my second Commander - the original was "Commander Jameson" in "Elite" on the Commodore 64 in the mid 80s - because yes, I *am* that old.
Having played all 4 versions of Elite, I have to say that the new game has all the joy of the old, and so many more amazing things that I just can't believe and absolutely love. Looking forward to joining up with an exploration or a convoy in the future, and maybe flying enough freight or people to get a Fed corvette.
Oh, and I already managed to get myself killed once flying into a Fed/Rebel fracas somewhere near Stopover. But I took a couple of 'em with me first.

Still out in Mare Desperationis around Sphuqou TG-G b52-0. Took a short trip out to the Eta Carina nebula and surrounding ones for some photo ops.
Then decided to head to Hawkins Nebula to get Elite in exploration as I was close anyways.
Then decided to check out the other side of the galaxy a bit past Sag A* (didn't visit it this time). Then thought I'm close to a cluster of nebula's in the Far 3kpc Arm, which then I thought hey Colonia isn't too far, as I hadn't been there (it didn't exist when I was near the area last exploration).
Then I thought hey, why don't I check out the outer rim a bit and ended out on the edge of the Abyssal Plain.
Finally decided I really should head back because I was only planning on exploring this time for about 2 weeks and that was it. 2 months later and I'm still over 46,000 Ly from the Bubble. And then hit a snag of a void of scoopable stars and had to meander through the maze to finally get back to normal jumping routes.
So that's my location and why the hell I'm out here...
