If you have to get it on discount, you can't afford to fly it. A stock Corvette is weak, because it is a huge, undergunned ship with a small basic shield. You will be shot down by NPCs in Cobras. You need at least 50 million on top of the purchase price to even consider flying the ship to the Engineers to actually make it do anything.

I made the same mistake you might be about to make OP - After I purchased the ship I realised it wasn't going to be going anywhere for a while. It's certainly nice to have it in the hangar while you go and buy all the pieces for it, just please be careful flying it stock because it will be a paper bullet magnet.

It's not the ship... it's all the extra goodies that will cost more. Reflective armor, 8A Power, the engineering... oy!

All stock ships are dangerously weak.

You should budget to have 3 times the purchase price available when you buy a small ship to get it safe to use something like a Corvette 5 or more times would be better and remember if you need one rebuy you should plan to have at least one spare.

Aside from the initial saving, taking advantage of the current discount means cheaper rebuys every single time from now on so still seems worth a punt if, like me, you haven't yet purchased that Corvette (I got the rank ages ago, have over a billion these days but had previously just decided I didn't really like big ships). There's never been a better time to buy one.

I too will be buying a "cheap cheap cheap" Corvette while it's on sale. Then I'll be sticking it in a hangar for another six months while I grind the credits and materials needed to make it a ship worthy of it's reputation. (But not before I take it out for a quick spin around the station so I can experience it in VR!)
