Where do we need to explore?

I really enjoy studying this pic
When looking at this map, we can see that we have explored very vastly, but very sparsely.
We can see the areas that have very high traffic, but we explorers are interested in the dark areas. I use this map as a guide to areas we need to explore. Is there any area in particular that we explorers should be focused on?

There are no "shoulds" when it comes to exploration. Go where it takes your fancy. Light or dark area in that map, as long as you're having fun it's perfectly valid.

Also note that this is a 2D representation of a 3D galaxy. That's the 0.001% explored. It looks bigger than it really is.

Interesting map. What is the source of that map.

You can clearly see where the permit locked areas are and that those areas are spherical or circular.
There's a nice gap there at the formidine rift.
The straight lines between Sol, Colonia, Sagittarius A and Beagle Point are obvious.
What's less obvious to me is the heavy traffic in these other seemingly meandering paths.
The path north-west from colonia that turns back toward Sag A* is pronounced enough that it had to be made by multiple commanders following the same path.
This path and others like it must have been made by organized expeditions.
Very cool indeed.

You can kind of see this in the EDD 3D map, but the contrast in your map is much improved.
Because the contrast has been tweaked in your map, it looks as if nobody has been to those sparsely covered areas but that's not true.
One look at the EDD map and you'll see that there's no place in the Galaxy that players haven't gone yet.
These are the stars that have been submitted by players using EDSM or EDDN. It's only PC players and only those who chose to use 3rd party tools.
As you can see, it's A LOT of stars.

Afaik the data for this map was pulled from EDDB (probably using EDDN, so would have been similar, if pulled from EDSM).

Somehow they've improved the contrast with data related to the number of visits.
Instead of showing every star that has been visited at the same brightness, the way EDD does, the brightness if a star is related to how many times it's been visited.
Or the brightness of a pixel is related to how many stars within that pixel have been visited.

There is no contrast tweak, just white pixels on a black background. Your map has a much, much lower resolution and uses dots, not simple pixels, so even a lot less dots take up a lot more room and the galaxy seems filled.

Thats a great map! Thanks for sharing Klutz
It would be interesting to see this same map from a different perspective. Being that this only shows a top view, it would be great to see turned 90 degrees. Id imagine what we see is mostly around/near the galactic plane.

Not sure where this originated from.

It’s from Elite Dangerous Discovey (software) and it’s a 3d map that can be rotated in the software.
It would be nice if edd would allow this kind of view with smaller pixel sized star markers

I believe the answer is "absolutely guddamn everywhere"

But seriously, I think in between the Perseus and Outer arms, and between the Outer and Scutum-Centaurus arms warrant more exploring. That's where I'm going next

Where ever you want! If you haven't been there before, then it is new to you! It doesn't matter if someone else has already been there before you. I saw some of my favorite places in areas that have been fairly heavily traveled and was still able to find an undiscovered system or two there.
Go where you want and see what you want. It is totally up to you!
