Using INARA and searching nearly a half dozen Extraction/Refinery systems listed near WOLF 397, I've come up with nothing. (3 hours of "grinding"). Up to now, I've had a blast playing this sim, even following clues to find terrorists, but this ridiculous searching for material traders is boring as hell. I thought maybe I'd find a material trader and sell off some of the more common materials I've gathered, but the process of finding one is ridiculously tedious.

Like I stated above. I've been using INARA, in the exact way you described and did it for about 6 systems listed near Wolf 397, visiting all the stations in those systems, no less, and not finding a material trader in any of them.
Ahhh, I suspect that you may have chosen 'Material Trader' at the top, then searched for your system, at which point the page resets to its default 'show nearest Independent Systems'. If you then select 'Material Trader' again you should get to the page I linked, which shows the exact stations and what sort of Material Trader is there.
I think that relies on you having visited the station previously. But I could be wrong

They are one of the groups under the Contacts option of the Station Services menu.

Don't think so. I used to bookmark them near my home systems but whenever I pull up the galmap for one I always find them via the filter, my location doesn't seem to matter.
Oh.... never tried that before, in the oven I'd calculate 20 min/pound at around 80 degrees celsius, but that's slow cooking... Good Luck with that! ... Raining buckets here....
