What systems are the 16th dec starters starting in? I can't find anyone. Since I started in Beta I have seen one Commander. I would like to meet some real people instead of just NPC's before they scatter throughout the galaxy...

I belive the the last 24 hour traffic info in stations is for the real people. I have seen some stations with dozens of ships around the starting areas.

Yes but where are the starting areas? Since I have been playing this from Beta I have seen 1 person. Just ONE! Real people have to be easier to find than this. I could understand when it was Beta and Gamma but now we're live I still see no one. I want to get back to civilisation at least for a short while and see a plip that is hollow!

Fed really are a stuck up bunch, few dodgy pieces of cargo and strafing the cops by mistake while bounty hunting and they just wont let it pass.

Where abouts are you? The starting systems that I can think of are Eranin, Chemaku, Liaden - around there. Peter was right in suggesting the traffic data on the GalNet news is for human players, that'll tell you a lot about the population density of that specific system.
Also, it's quite possible that you're internet connection is difficult to match with others so that may be why you're seeing so few people. PM me if you'd like and we can organize a meet up for later tonight (US eastern time zone)

I was placed for Gamma in the LHS 3447 system, and the population of players in the nearby systems has been fairly high, higher than I tended to see in Beta. Kind of miss the space around Arcturus where I'd been kicking about in Beta, though.
I'm seeing a whole lot of hollow contacts around LHS 3447. I'm assuming, given all the rubberbanding, that those are players.
Pretty much everyone starts in "a random system." Kickstarters can occasionally start in a particular system - but you probably won't be in the vicinity since you are starting someplace "ramdom."
I did see a few number of other Commanders hanging around the Erevate system.

Everyone seems to be in Lugh and that system with a Slave Revolt. There are a few commanders (me included) hanging out in SOL. Rest of them? Check starting systems (LHS 1933 was full of sideys trying to move a station by head-butting it). Think I've meet ~ 30-40 commanders today and only 2 of them tried to kill me!
