There is also a system called Obe...which should also some ring some bells for EvE vets!

Confession: I did a nav search for Jita on my third day of playing. The result pasted a smile on me face.

Elite doesn't have the same sort of player driven economy as Eve but in the original game you started in Lave and that system and the surrounding systems are pretty popular destinations if seeing lots of other players congregate is what you mean?

It seems that community goals are bringing players together more than any particular star system at the moment... like the one in Achenar this weekend (that I somehow missed and has already ended despite the fact it wasn't supposed to end until Sunday).

Anyways... in short there are no trade hubs, Lave is as close to Jita as you're gonna get and community goals are what make players congregate.

It's all good btw.... Jita was a laggy nightmare!

In an other game. ED is about admiring the sight and listening to the ambient in solitude meanwhile you imagine whatever you want. In this sense, ED is very similar to the Windows Starfield screensaver. I always imagined that, after some time, I would arrive to a space station.
I played that thing for months but no luck.

You must just be unlucky, last time I was at Hutton Orbital there were so many commanders there people were setting up impromptu queuing systems, and a guy in a Courier was doing some awesome stunt flying.

Hutton is definitely the place to go, you can usually pick up some well paying missions from nearby systems as well!

"Generally" and I use the term loosely, places that sell rare goods can be considered such hubs.
But no single central hub no.

The powerplay main systems usually have a lot of traffic.

The large majority of players (myself included) would strongly reject the idea of a "Jita".
