Where is Odyssey headed and why is not okay to ask that question?

FDEV and fellow Commanders, I pressed enter by accident and boom, its here! I'll type quickly.

With the lack of a roadmap and any other information covering the future of this expansion and Elite in general, I'm wondering what's next and why we are experiencing such radio silence on the matter. Have I missed something or is information available out there that can help me get an answer for this?

I know about the general statements concerning story updates and the like but that really is quite vague, isn't it? So, what is coming and how do we know?
One of my all time favorite quotes is:

“I would rather have questions that can't be answered than answers that can't be questioned.”

- Richard P. Feynman

Im ok with a lack of roadmap, or certainly a lack of a detailed roadmap. I like the idea of something just appearing in the game unannounced.
Hyperdictions anyone? When the first Thargoid interaction happened (ironically on the XBox) we all lost our minds! It was superb, and we knew this would lead to something bigger. Sure, we kind of knew Thargoids were coming, but we were still surprised. I’m all for it.

Problem is now, however, there has been a lot of negativity surrounding the game, with the latest comms being very much focused on what’s NOT going to happen - VR support dropped, ship interiors not on the radar, consoles dropped, known issues not being fixed in the future.

So when I say I’m ok with a lack of roadmap, I probably mean I WAS ok, before we had these challenges.
Now, I think FDev should throw us a bone, at least something for us to look forward to, to counter the announcements surrounding what isn’t coming…

There's plenty of stuff to come, and I understand not wanting to give dates for anything when you're not sure. However I do think given the barrage of issues and bad news over the past 10 months or so that the current silence isn't doing the game any good from a publicity point of view. Frontier seem to swing from really chatty, to not saying a word. As I said usually not so much of an issue but given what's happened it's not a great look.

Its OK! We all have moments! Your forgiven! :)
Whilst I am flattered by such hero-worship (which is a little unhealthy among adults) from yourself, it is obviously entirely 'off-topic', although I could listen to your adoration all day if circumstances were different, and moderators dislke 'discuss the poster not the post' so will be forced to abstain from responding to your obvious seductive comments.

Odd that, I thoiught that you were the entrertainment, how remiss of me...

I’m not sure FD being told to head in every (often mutually exclusive) direction at the same time, and to get to those destinations NOW, is necessarily going to help matters.

(Don’t get me wrong here, I like what you’re saying in an idealistic sense, but I think that in reality it wouldn’t work at all, and would quite possibly just make things worse.)

Ah but if they only included players that agreed with FDEV's projected future development that would be fine......oh wait, that would actually be worse for the forum right?

FD then somehow missed the more important part: To actually get things done.
Perhaps the people saying ‘be more like HG’ aren’t being clear enough! 😜

But in seriousness, I imagine FD know fine well that when people say ‘be more like HG’ they don’t actually mean that, and what they actually mean is ‘be more like HG (… but not the sides of HG that we’re pretending don’t exist)’. 😉

Why?

Cos the people who still love and play the game and want to come on here to help fellow fans don't want to see negativity about the game they adore and believe in. So they speak up against nay sayers.

Simple as that.

Where's it headed?

Into the cold black void of nothingness. Just my opinion of course.

No issues at all asking that question. Im sure many players are thinking it. And the answer is we dont know because fdev rolled back on their commitment last year on more open communication and regular dev updates and now no longer tell us anything.

It's okay to ask that question. Don't listen to the people who make you feel bad about asking it. Those people are the strangest people around here basically advocating for no roadmap and being in the dark.

If you play the game and support the game then you should know where it's headed and what's coming. Most of the live service games have roadmaps nowadays and Frontier need to take a look around and learn from others. Nobody wants to play a dying game and right now Elite feels like a dying game.
