Where should I go for my 5000 ly Palin trip?

Never been more than 500 ly from spawn, but It's finally time to say goodbye to civilization and the bubble. I don't just wanna fly in a straight line though, I'm a space tourist and would like to know if there's any really cool places within that distance. Not just astronomical objects, but tiny pockets of civilization are cool to me too.

As for my ship, it's an Asp Explorer with 44 ly jump range.

I'd also like to try taking the neutron highway but not sure about it. Are they more damaging than white dwarves? And can i get the 25 fragments along the way?

Just point your ship in any direction other than straight "up" or "down" and head out. You're bound to see a nebula or two along the way.

Well don't try for the Horsehead nebula or at least be aware that the large locked area Col 70 is in the way and is somewhat of a pain to get around but it is nice once you get to the other side past all the brown dwarfs. It is good experience though.

Head towards the Galactic rim, "south" of Sol. There's plenty of nebula to visit, plus you can climb or dice and mess around with the view from the edges of the galaxy. It's pretty awesome.

I just got back from a trip to the Monkey Head Nebula, then up to 1800ly above the Galactic plane. That's about 6500ly.
Even found a neutron patch up there to play in. Lol
Just don't jump to your doom. :D

Rosette nebula is a nice trip that is over 5k

you can also head back via seagul nebula and thors helmet

very nice pics there. Rosette looks interesting, might head there. 1 More question: Your jump range gets longer as you use up fuel, correct? Is there a way to make the route planner take advantage of that?

I'm currently out on my"Palin invite" I took on a passenger wanting to go to "the black treasure"
5.3KLy's from pickup. Whell I got there got my goodies from the black hole .

Whell I hadent received my invite yet, so I figured I'd make a few more jumps til I get it then turn back.. whell I just left eagles landing(eagle nebula)
I am currently reading 6,991KLy's (max distance from start.
And 7,132KLy's from port.

Is Fdev trolling me lol!?!?
I'm flying straight out.
I don't understand....

I just went... out... and kept going till I reached 5000.

Get an engineered Detailed Surface scanner (Fast Scan) before you go... so you don't fall asleep.

Sell your Cart Data to Palin.

Somehow, I was first to discover a number of systems...

Forget the destination, this goal is about getting 5000 LY away from your point of in-game origin and that is all! There are no conveniently placed destinations for you to visit that will fulfill that requirement. The best plan is to pick a RANDOM direction and simply fly a fairly straight line for about 6000 (Yup!) LY. This way you are SURE you have exceeded the 5000 LY goal. Or stop and turn around if you get the invite while on route. The reason for picking a RANDOM direction is:
If you go toward any destination someone else tells you about, then you can be reasonably sure other CMDRs have been there before you. You will find a bunch of systems that have already been "discovered". An interesting sideline of this mission and a source of lots of credits is all of the exploration data you will collect on your journey and the possibility of getting system(s) or planet(s) named for your original discovery, the only way to do that is to be the first one to go there. Consider taking an SRV or SLF if your budget allows, just in case you trip over something interesting out there on a planetary surface.

The Palin trip does not really take very long in a ship with decent jump-range, I also used an A-rated (it is what I have) Asp-X with slightly less jump-range. If you are motivated, it can be completed in a few hours (took me about 8 to 10 hours, in 2 hour shifts, after work). I took an AFMS but left it turned off and never needed it (eats resources/materials for fuel, remember the AFMS needs fuel to work), consider leaving it at home unless you like to run into things. Pick a random direction, if possible away from any direction you think other CMDRs might have gone and plot a 700 or 800 LY coursed in that direction, longer than that and the galaxy map might not plot a course. Scoop fuel and use the Advanced Discovery Scanner to "HONK" every system, check the system map to find "interesting" planets, etc. then use the Detailed Surface Scanner to "scan da blue ones" or anything else that looks "interesting" or pretty before jumping to the next system. You will probably find most systems are a collection of brown mud-balls. When you reach the end of your 800 LY plot, plot another 800 LY path in the same direction. I suggest book-marking a system about every 1000 LY for reference, it will help you track your progress on the galaxy map. If you follow this advice you will probably return with the Palin invite, several tens of millions worth of exploration data and when you sell that data you may find you have made an original discovery or two. o7

Tip: Once you are well away from the bubble, turn off systems that are not being used, hangars, AFMS (if fitted), even weapons to increase your available energy budget. The more available energy, the longer your shields will last if the unthinkable happens and you are jumped-on out there. If you are feeling invincible you can even turn off the shields, just remember to turn them back on before returning to the bubble. o7

Not entirely true i had a passenger that wanted to travel about 5200ly to visit a nebula , it was a tiny nebula with a single planet and blackhole but scenic enough and netted a nice paycheck for my trouble.

Passengers often turn out to be a PITA, wanting you to purchase some hard to find item or change of destination. Personally I would skip the passenger and make the mission my own, the earnings for the exploration data should make up for any lost "passenger" revenue . . . o7

I think I went out to the jellyfish nebula and back. It really isn't as far as you might think. Certainly, going to the core is overkill, unless you just want to.

Just ignore the request and take them to the destination. I do this all the time.

Currently 2.7k ly from Sol. Might have 2 undiscovered systems on my hands. Made a pitstop in the California nebula on my way out, was well worth it.

I made my venture to Black Treasure, with a VIP passenger, in a Beluga.

You might consider looking for a passenger mission that is 5000+ Ly to make some extra money in the process. It's not like you don't have to make the trip anyways, and this will help you decide where you're going.

i drew a straight line from my home through Maia and continued out along that path.
when i turned around to come home, Maia was the first populated system i encountered.
naturally i visited the good professor on my way through and started my work with him.

I did the same 10mil for the passenger mission and figure's I could get my "Palin invite". Whell made it to Black Treasure got my goodie bag from the black hole..
Well hadent received invite so decided to keep truck in til I get the invite,..right?
Whell next thing I'm know in directly under the eagle nebula, so I plot herr and find my self in a system with a Nav beacon.. with ppl/enforcer's buzzing around. N I'm like. ??? wWhatt? (7KLy's out)
scan it and find a outpost "Eagle Landing",, well I spent the night there left this afternoon I'm currertly on another 900KLy trek even farther.. I'm now nearly half way to
Sag A. And I STILL HAVENT GOT MY PALIN INVITE!!!!

Wtfrickk guys I'm in a dolphin, I need to get home.
Not to mention my passenger is gonna eject into a star if ii keep pushing ITT..

I was just going to suggest the California Nebula did you check out the giant pumpkins and the fungal Growths and the Alliance secret bases?
Mall cool stilettos.
