Newcomer / Intro Where to activate this "direction arrow!"

I've watched a couple of 1.2 videos on youtube and noticed a "target direction arrow" on the HUD showing you exactly in which direction you have to turn to face your current target. Playing the game myself, I have never yet seen this arrow, but I'd like to use this function, too... so does anybody know what I have to do to activate it?

I have already looked through all options but haven't found what to click yet....

Just in case you don't know what I am talking about

That's the mouse control indicator, not a target direction indicator. It shows which direction your mouse is aiming your ship in.

You need to use the radar to tell you where the target is.

If the blip is transparent, the target is behind you, if it is solid, it is in front of you.

bit confusing there. the radar with the dots on stalks is solid for NPC and hollow for player. square for hardpoints stowed and triangle for hardpoints activated. if the stalk goes up the target is above you, down it's below you. where the stalk meets the ground shows you if it's to the side or in front/behind.

the compass used for navigation like supercruise targets is solid for in front and hollow for behind

Awww only mouse users get that sweet little arrow? :(

#sadface

I thought it was indicating the direction you had to move in order to focus on your target.... that would have been so cool...

Well, back to scanner-tracking then.
