Where's the danger in Elite Dangerous?

Somehow I can never get rid of pirates. I am still searching my cargo ships for tracking bugs because they always know when to mess with me and I am tired of them. Those damn dockhands are leaking to the pirates!

Not everyone's as sweaty as you are.

Almost exactly half a year ago there was a steady player of Elite complaining that the NPCs, both Human and Thargoid, were too hard.
And essentially did a soft "rage quit" if you want to call it that.

That player is someone who just wants a laid back Pachinko-like experience, where they can operate controls with one hand and eat a sandwich with the other as the game clears their mind of whatever happened during the salaryman's workday.

Like already others mentioned, come to Sol, Deciat or Shin... and hang around there for DAYS if needed. Im sure you will get what you lookin for... sooner or later.
I went to Deciat multiple times in all of my early ships, pirates didn't chase me there.

It has a permanently damaged my self-esteem. There must be something seriously wrong with me, since no one will give me a quick gank even in sleazy pick-up system.

Edit: typo

I once saw a post like that on steam, they were complaining that care-bear mode (solo :D) wasn't care-bear enough because they were getting ganked by NPC's.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if FDEV here and there spews in an "anything-goes-day", where every mode is linked together? No warning, no schedule, just at random you suddenly see other CMDRs while in solo. Imagine the salt mountain, the rage quits, the forum PVP. Like the purge, but in Elite. If I'd want to see this place burn, this would be my plan. Oh, maybe also with an announcement of a new "purge-immunity" ARX package. :devilish:

Sure as long as we can have an all modes PVE day, bet the salt mountain would be higher :ROFLMAO:

Well, in reality, we may be to blame for that (I'm almost 60)... we wanted to raise our children safely and we overprotected them with so many corner protectors and power strips, doing what in my country (Spain) we call "hombres blandengues" (soft men).

Sorry for that. My fault 🤣

Until not long ago, carrying out transport missions with a Type-9 required even one or two commanders from your community to escort you to your destination. Now, however, I've made a couple hundred trips between Ngobe, Kehperagwe, and my own system, and I've barely been interdicted by a single, defenseless cobra.

In my desperate boredom, I've played in the open, hoping a ganker would give me a scare, but not even that!

I want to feel fear! I want to flee with scorched shields and the feeling of a narrow escape... I want the thrill of yesteryear, when you prepared for the worst when you entered the destination system. I want that feeling of injustice when you were interdicted 12 mm from the station.

And even, why not? I want to die.

It's not that the danger went away. You just got better at flying, recognizing threats, and how to avoid them.

There used to be more danger. People complained.
Really? Over about 8 years I haven't noticed any obvious change in threat levels. There are still missions which have multiple pirates turning up. It was always the case that if you didn't have cargo, NPCs would scan you and leave. I think the danger is just system and activity dependent as it always was.

When I want to really feel a thrill while carrying cargo, I pick a smuggling mission to a ground station with large pads. Then you drop on your destination about 100km away, then you fly in low level, staying 50 to 100 meters from the ground and in between the canyons... If the popo or smugglers won't get you, the ground will surely take a swipe at you. Good luck, and you're welcome!

Yup, the game is too easy.
Sure, one can always solo a Medusa or Hydra, but now that the Thargoid war is over, it just feels artificial.

Might I take this moment to assure our delightful PvP community that I for one have never doubted the threat they represent, and will thus require no such reminder myself?🤣
PvP sure is the most challenging aspect of the game. But is it really part of the game? What purpose does it serve? What progression does it bring?
Ending the conversation at "PvP is enough, no need to bring more challenge to the game" is like saying that the game does not need CG's or new features, and you can just let the players have fun, find fun on their own.

Outside of PvP, there are ways to make the game more challenging, just by tweaking some game mechanics. Why, for instance, at a RES or pirate spot, do the pirates act independently? Why are they just watching you, scanning your empty cargo haul, while you are slaughtering their fellows one at a time instead o joining the fight? Why aren't there any high threat there, like you would find at a wing assassination mission?
