Which Planet Zoo Animals Do You NOT Like?

I tend to not like animals which don't behave realistically, like the koala and the pangolin, they should spend more time in trees, and the pangolin can't even climb to begin with. The bonobo misses its key behavior because Frontier needed to keep the game family friendly, so is is just the same as the chimpanzee. the orangutan moves like a gorilla, even if Frontier can't have it brachiate it should still not walk on its knuckles.
I don't see the need for clone animals like the tortoises and the brown bear and grey wolf subspecies, they don't add anything extra to the game, and the choice of the rarely kept Himalayan brown bear is just weird.
I really wish the cougar and snow leopard had some kind of climbing need/ climbing enrichment rock, Same for the Dall sheep, but I still like all three.
The Formosan black bear, it should have been listed as the Asian black bear, it bothers me XD .
The Malayan tapir because the model is just wrong.
The Nyala, I keep using it as a sitatunga instead, I have never seen Nyalas in a zoo myself.
The Proboscis monkey, am not a fan of primates personally and this one is the most ugly of them all, I would have liked any species of langur instead.
Thomson's antelope, I get that they are an iconic ZT species, but they are a clone. I love ungulates but the game lacks Asian antelopes, this could have been a Blackbuck.
The exhibit animals are gorgeous, but most are to small for that big box. Also, I'm arachnophobic, please Frontier have a setting that blanks their images in the zoopedia, pls.
The lion is just to cartoonish, I never play without the lion remaster mod! Also the subspecies is no longer recognized and the Zoopedia info is that of the Lion species as a whole, they shouldn't have listed it as a specific subspecies.

I also have the PZ+ mod to fix the bison and camel size, Frontier made them way to small and refuses to fix it.

Honestly the south american ones aren't my favorite, I mostly bought that DLC for the building stuff and the tapir. Not because of models in the game but because I just find the animals really strange and also I can't look at the babirusa without thinking about how they pass away in real life.

They are strange indeed. That's why are so special.

There are animals I have never used because they don't do much to me like the hippo, the dhole, dingo and polar wolf. I no longer keep polar animals with the exception of the polar bear. I don't use the malayan tapir because of the bad model and others I don't use because they are too similar to other animals: bengal tiger, galapagos tortoise, sea crocodile, himalayan brown bear.

By the way, has the male lion been modified or have I gotten used to it? I think it looks a bit better now, the hair doesn't look like plastic 🤔

I genuinely like them all but tend to use the shy animals a lot less than the neutral and confident species because it's just easier. Unfortunately, the current way the game works means you can't set up web cams and binoculars to allow guests to view less confident animals from afar so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is changed in the next update. (See also animals that require huge habitats though this can be worked around with paths and rides.)

I also find myself avoiding the lemurs and capuchin monkeys as I kept having issues where they would get stuck in the climbing frames etc I was building for them. I've no idea if this is a reflection on my building skills or it it is a bug, and - if the latter - if it's been fixed.

There are no animals I won't use definitively, I love variety and challenge myself to keep adding new species, but I still very rarely use:
Primates, not a fan irl plus the lemurs' in game social structures are all wrong
Exhibit animals, because they're just glorified statues and the bugs' breeding and dying just become impossible to keep up with
Hippos, cos they swat their poo all over and it icks me out

Rudi commented on that in one of his latest episodes too; I can't comment cos none of my current zoos have lions.

One thing I don't see brought up a lot is the hyena. Like...

Just looking up pictures of the planet zoo hyena gives a weird dissonance when you see the pictures of real hyenas right next to them. They have a more rounded nose, whereas the PZ version is more squared. Pretty sure the PZ ones have smaller eyes than real ones, too, which is weird because the PZ ones are supposed to be more cartoony. Their faces honestly look kinda bear-like, I think

oh.JPG

Real hyenas also have shorter legs, longer necks, and smaller heads than the PZ ones. The PZ hyena's body is just too small...

It's a shame because I'd like to see the actual charm hyenas have in-game. They don't have to be hyper-accurate, just appealing.

Agreed! Thanks for the comparisons as well. I kind of like hyenas in real life, but not so much in game.

Most of the odd model choices; however they're mostly base-game ABCs, which I don't use. The Arctic wolf and especially the Himalayan brown bear, on the other hand, bug me because they feel way too similar to existing animals. I also never use the king penguin; it's not a bad animal but I find the African Penguin a better generalist penguin and also just plain cuter (plus, I love South Africa).

Oh yeah, I also can't stand the Giant Panda. National Zoo is my local zoo, I've had enough of giant pandas and the tourists they attract! Damn oreo bears!
Greater Flamingo too, as it makes me worried that the American flamingo has zero chance of getting in, and I think the latter species is more colorful and generally more useful, especially for American-themed zoos.

Can totally see why someone else could like either though, lol, and I use the flamingo plenty.

I don't really hate any animals, they all seem great to me, but yes. I find some faults and things that I don't like at all, and that's the reason why they are not very used in my zoos

1.-the Bactrian camel is an animal that I adore, I use it for everything but its design is not that of a camel, it is that of a dromedary and much smaller, if they added more fur and height it would be perfect
2-The American bison is another animal that I love but I do not like that it is as small as its real counterpart, both this and the camel I use very often but I am still not convinced by their sizes

3.-Now yes, one of the animals that I hardly use is the Japanese macaque, I don't know, I don't find it interesting at all and its design seems ugly
4.-The nyala seems to me an ugly and thin antelope, it is not very attractive to me
5.-The warthog, I also do not find something attractive and I do not like having them in my zoos, besides that I play a lot in franchise mode, the warthog is a plague and it is not worth raising them
5.-The timber wolf, honestly, is one of the worst animals in the game, its face and its size are a no, for me, besides that in Spanish it is like the Mackenzie´s Wolf, it is a specific subspecies

7.-The saltwater crocodile for me was so impressive when the game came out but over time it has aged badly and it looks very bad compared to the alligator and the dwarf caiman

there are several animals that have aged badly and that the new dlc animals are better but I still like them although when the game is over, more animals will continue to look bad and it's a shame, because we will have excellent and realistic animals but we will also have old animals

I love pretty much all animals, but there are a few that I'm not big fans of:

Animals that I absolutely hate(I don't have a problem with the PZ models, I just don't like the animal)
  • Chimpanzee
  • Bonobo

Animals that I just don't really find exciting or have much interest in so I hardly ever use them
  • Proboscis Monkey
  • Sun Bear
  • Dhole
  • Meerkat
  • Fennec Fox
  • Capuchin Monkey
  • Dingo
  • Koala
  • Indian Peafowl
  • Thompson's Gazelle
  • Springbok
  • Chinese Pangolin
  • Red Panda

Any exhibit animals that live for less than 5 years are pointless, as they take too much management to keep replacing them.

Animals that have serious problems in their implementation (mostly bad-looking models):
Grizzly bear
Himalayan brown bear
Timber wolf
Spotted hyena
West African lion
Bactrian camel
Malayan tapir
Orangutan

Animals with more minor problems (including size issues):
California sea lion
Dingo
Cheetah
Malayan tapir
Indian rhinoceros
Saltwater crocodile
Gharial
Galapagos giant tortoise
Aldabra giant tortoise

Honorable mention to the many enrichment items that haven't been retrofitted to pre-existing animals (e.g. the Dall sheep not being able to use the climbing rocks, the Aardvark not being able to use the termite mound).

I hope at the very end of PZ's lifespan there's a sweeping patch that fixes as many of these issues as possible.

Maybe I’m the only one but I’ve really grown to like the Himalayan brown bear lately 🥰
Such an amazing screenshot Frontier posted the other day

I know that some animals are not perfect and could use some improvements but I think of them as the original artist vision and please remember that you could always use mods to improve them and enhance them. Like tigers for example.
As most of you already know I would only like them to fix Malayan tapirs which are in constant need of remodel - I have no idea why they could changed the Dhole and Binturong and ignore tapir for the whole year?????

There's really no animal in the game that I hate. I mean, "hate" - that's quite a strong word for an even stronger emotion. But there are animals I never use, cause I don't like them as much as I like others. Antelopes (Nyala, Bongo, Springbok, Thompson Gazelle...) for example. I used them to fully research my zoopedia, but they were permanently stressed out and therefore a pain in my ... rear end... so I got rid of them, once they were fully researched. I do use the pronghorn though, cause they enrich the bison.

I prefer bonobos over chimps, because they're taller.
Malayan tapirs over baird's tapirs. Cause the malayans don't get stressed.
Lemurs over capuchin monkeys. Cause the sounds, or should I say noise of the capuchins is annoying.

I almost never use the hippo. It's a space-eating, ugly-faced poo-slingshot... therefore it reminds me too much of humans!
