Thats an important point you made there Wayne, the real beauty of Elite is that you don't need to stay a trader, you don't need to stay a lackey for some faction. You can go off (when you feel like it) and do whatever takes your interest, be that a bit of peaceful exploration or some mad rampage across five sectors! :D

Independent Cobra III for me, absolutely. Starting in Lave with 100 credits, I'm prepped and I'm playing Elite the true classic way!

If we only get one start with the main game, then I, for one, will be starting a few times in single player (training) mode before exploring the great expanse...

At least until I have re-learnt how to fly

I think I'll be doing the same kinda thing, learn the basic game in single player, then some time later when I feel ready, use my pledge ship to start in the multiplayer. This could take some game time though initially in singleplayer, as I would be starting with a base ship?
In this event though I would prefer to start with 'the basic' ship. :)

Just as a side note thought, How exactly would we be given a 'base ship'?...would it be a similar set up to Frontier Elite 2, whereby you're given the ship by your 'relative' in the game world namely your 'Grandfather in his Will?...or by some other avenue.
The maximum pledge I would choose to upgrade my pledge would be the £40 tier, so that in theory would give me a Cobra Mk111 in the multiplayer game?

Jack.

Hey OneoftheLost, where have you been hiding? :)
As for you question I am going to go for the Explorer option as I want to explore the new Elite game. Later, I might go for the basic Sidewinder start as building up a basic ship with little money was for me one of the fun parts of the original games.

I'm torn with this one myself. I really would like to start off on the border of unexplored space but another part of me (big part) wants to be on Lave, build up, get experience and THEN head out.

Well it looks like it was decided for me, due to the unfortunate timing of the KS, I've been forced to drop my pledge a wee bit. Looks like its a Sidewinder for me! Not a problem, if DB intended this to be the starter ship, then that is the way the game is meant to be played. :)

I have pledged to have all the start options (was high enough even before the new levels appeared), but I must admit that the Sidewinder start intrigues me. I will probably try with one of my commanders at some point. :)

I am interested to see what the founders world is and I am not sure how difficult that would be to find if you did not start there. Although if in single player you can start many times then you would be able to discover where the founders world is before starting on multi-player. Independent trader also sounds appealing to me.

I am really not sure, I suppose we will get more info closer to the time which will make the decision easier.

In Frontier Elite II, the start I took was the stolen cobra mk III in Lave. I'll be sure to have at least one save game following the same route in Elite Dangerous!

Ok so I am a bit confused. I quickly signed on last night, mainly to get the iOS app to work. I chose the Founders World to see what it was and how many people would be there. (None)
But really I want to start in Lave with 100 credits.

I was going to just get myself killed doing something stupid and then go back and start with that option (in multiplayer) can I not do that ?
