Whispering / talking planets.

Hello everyone.

Does anyone know why some planets are whispering / talking while scanning in FSS mode? Example:

Hi :)

Frontier actually worked with the British Antarctic Survey to incorporate real noises from space into the game when it was being overhauled for Beyond Chapter 4 and the updates to the FSS and DSS. There was a really interesting deep dive into it which you can still watch

It could be the Geological signals on that planter that are altering it slightly. You can hear subtle variations in the types of sounds the different planets make, if you listen to an Earth-like world that is hospitable with indigenous life you will hear the noises of animal life. If you listen to settled ones then you will get radio signals. Gas Giants without rings sound different to ones with rings etc.

Before FSS we would target planets, using their holo-image (in the target box) to work out what they were - each type had different sounds associated with them.
The holo was misleading, but the sounds in the System Map were indeed the only sure fire way to tell what they were before approaching.

I always felt they were quite easy to interpret in the main...

N.B Very old graphic, values much different now.

For sure the sounds helped though.

I was sure there was an interactive webpage with the sounds per body but I can't find it, though it probably doesn't exist any more anyway.

Are there any stations, settlements or ships there?

No, I've heard this sound only when I'm on exploration. Probably because I rarely scan planets in the bubble.

I know these sounds, but they are connected to the type of the body.

This whispering on the video is always the same and appears with the different types of bodies. Mostly for metal, rocky and icy bodies but once I've heard it on gas giant with water-based life.

Basicaly it doesn't matter that body has any features (geological or biological) or is landable, this sound appears with the different types of bodies.

Well, as @Ozric says, they did rework the audio for the FSS, it is all explained in the video they linked above.

Only a medium old graphic as it has the updated icons for the Neutron Stars and White Dwarfs (which used to just look like all other stars) :) But I personally always had trouble telling the difference between 6 of those, plus the two types of Gas Giants with life compared to without. But the sounds tell you within 10 seconds.

We all find what works best for us, which is one of the great things about this game. Unfortunately I think you're right, a lot of the sites from that long ago are all gone now, the FSS made a lot of things redundant.

@Ozric , thanks for link to that stream.
I've watched it twice to be sure that is doesn't miss something, but there is no explaination of this whispering. In 1:22:50 this whisper appears for 10 seconds, but no one explain what it is.
Only some people on chat noticed it and suggest that maybe it's raxxla but on the stream no one even say a word about this whisper.

...for how long have you been out there in the black, CMDR? 😆
Over three and a half years ;)

I'm sad no one said it before, but...

Raxxla???

Who knows, maybe it's related to raxxla :)

I think it can't be a sound generated by any planet like these presented on video, because in this sound something definitely saying some words, but I can't understand what are that words. I also tried to generate a spectrogram, but I didn't find anything there.

Maybe someone who knows how to work with audio can extract more information from it.
