White Dwarf classifications?

I haven't noticed that different WD have different classifications on the map such as: DAB, DC and DA. Why is that?

Also, there is a nice WD/neutron star field near EOCK BLUAE AA-A H36 if anyone is interested! I promise not to scan them all! :D

Also found another WD/NS field in the area of SYSTIPOEA OE-H D10-12

This is all I know. I have this on a crib next to the monitor :D

DA hydrogen-rich atmosphere
DB helium-rich atmosphere (He I)
DO helium-rich atmosphere (He II)
DQ carbon-rich atmosphere (atomic or molecular)
DZ metal-rich atmosphere (merger of DG, DK, DM)
DC no strong spectral lines
DX spectral lines are unclear

Probably not complete. :p

Just found a DBV WD - a Pulsating White Dwarf.

Neutron Stars and WDs form a layer at approx Z= +/-1000. Nobody knows the limits of the layer but it seems it is present at least in Core area. If you manage to scan all those WDs you will learn an eternal fame and glory [big grin]
